  1. Thank you Intern. I am not saying as a marshal I want money, what I am saying is that if you see the people working for the race as volunteers you can?t expect them to leave there business and work to concentrate only on the race. Most of the work is done after hours and during the night. I know that Don?s matter was attended to at 22H30. I am not however saying that not responding is ok because we are volunteers! I can assure you that nobody associated with the race is making bags full of money for there own pockets. I can give you several examples: The North West University uses the money generated af the finish for the meal a day programme Pick ?n Pay invests all in the community Pedal Palls buys cycles for the programme they have running to get underprivileged people into cycling Rotary has lots of programmers running that they use the funds for I think with cycling being a privileged sport you as cyclists can be really proud of the contributing you are making to the community. We only represent the people you are helping by participating in the race. Staal2009-02-06 02:22:07
  2. Thats me - all bold and fat with my cheap suit and all
  3. Can anybody assist ? how much time is a cyclist allowed to appeal after the race? hours/days? To the comments regarding the fun riders ? I suppose that is what cycling as a sport should be about FUN! The ?celebrities? in cycling is appreciated but to me personally its about the thousands of riders doing the race in 4 or 5 hours. These are the guys that give the race its personality. If I where one of those guys and the riders I look up to is belittling me, I would probably pawn my bike and take up running! lol. I would never be corrupted with a beer, maybe 2. Who knows maybe I will personally hand you your tjek next year, if you are lucky like this year and make into the top 3 that is. 4. Everyone that followed the procedure should by now have received prize money.
  5. Ok! I will come clean. I was in charge of the second sector of the race, the part going past South Gate and turning of on the M1. Not so much being part of the management team, but pulling my weight where needed, I for one know what effort goes into the planning and managing of the race. Just referring to my sector, I was up at 2 in the morning putting up signage and sweeping the road. We had a hell of a problem with taxis coming from Soweto going to South Gate and being downhill cyclists where going tremendously fast, yet at my sector there was no incidents. This can only be contributed to the hours of work that have gone in before the race. There is a multitude of sectors with people like me putting in a lot of effort. To read these kinds of defamatory remarks, after all the work that has gone into the race, was unbearable. I know Len as a man of exceptional integrity and a specialist in his field, as the rest of the comity. You have been apologised to and if I am not mistaken you have received your money, why keep perusing this? As you know all the proceeds are given to charities in the Gauteng area ? so we are all working for FREE!! The matter of the delay in the prize money has been discussed. Maybe you can help clarify some of the rules for us. How long does a cyclist have to make an appeal? If it is only a couple of hours than I will personally push for payment on the race day. If it is a couple of days than that is another story! we are not assosiated with the 94.7 I used to compete at provincial boxing level Staal2009-02-05 09:24:53
