  1. it took him crashing in beijing to get on the front page of the star last year! This heading towards you showing off again ? nah' date=' it was going to happen one way or the other. on specific days we planned the front pages of the afternoon editions around medal hopefuls - ok, maybe we were being over-hopeful on most days - but in skizo we saw a real chance. the best reportage - and my boet, who was in beijing, is gonna hate me for this - was sean's analysis here on the hub immediately after the race. [/quote'] Holy - do you have a link to that?
  2. We're adding another jump line to the track (Thanks Calla and Wiltas!) Here you can see the start ramp and the first jump in its beginning stages. Calla is planning two jumps and then two fast berms before joining the jumps lower down. Should be fun. The little XC track runs just above the ramp so it could be a fun way to get back to the top for the fitter riders!
  3. Nice can you give me an idea on how to go about doing this' date=' on the bright side if I cock it up, I'll have a reason to get a new one [/quote'] Bought a Tora U-turn off the Hub - no issues so far. Downloaded the manuals from Sram, doesn't look like rocketscience, but it does look like you have to be careful with the rebound seal
  4. Yes' date=' Gansbaai, Thats a great Idea, and Yes, I love that singletrack! Its sooo fast and flows amazingly well, only have to brake a little every here and there, but almost full taps. However, Explaun better, I cannot remember exactly which entrance this is, One can get very lost In that section as there are many trails. Any specific markings? I grew up there but cant remember which turnoff exactly.[/quote'] I have a map at home with the distances marked - will post it tomorrow and pm you. Not that difficult to find. The gravel road is the escape route for the petrus se brand route from diepwalle, goes through cuthbert something or other. The entrance to the slip will be easy to find after the Knysna - it might just be slippier than normal with all the traffic!!! Couldn't find my topo map - hope this will do. I know the total distance to the slip turnoff is about 6k's. The gravel road turn off is also quite well used and has a sign to something or other. The slip itself has a little metal sign with a bicycle on it (was there last time we road it!) We also didn't cycle all the way back to the paypoint but picked up the red route entrance. If I think of anything else will post! Have fun

  6. For those doing Harkerville during the festival - or any other time for that matter. Do the slip trail part of Petrus se Brand as well. From the pay point cycle about 2k's towards Knysna and take the gravel road to your right. About 6k's up you get the entrance to the slip (marked) and blast down on what I think is the best part of the Knysna route. Gets everything going and you are nicely warmed up for red route!!
  7. Same issue, had mine welded and kept it as a spare. Scott replaced mine under warranty with no questions. Funny - the new one never broke again, even with bigger drops! What went next was the lower arm, snapped at front end, might have been chain damage?? Welding a good option, when they did mine they heated the whole arm in an oven before welding. Rode it for about 3 months before I put on the replacement to see if the weld would hold. Had no issues
  8. Hi Ronelle and madmarc - my daughter took another shot with similar lighting (slightly more light with less cloud and used same f-stop (3.5) and the camera set 1/3000. We did not have the flash with us but would it work as a fill in flash at that speed?. I read the manual and it seems it could only sync up to 1/200. So even though it is quite dark the sharpness is ok creating a reasonable silhouette shot.
  9. Some more pics from the gansbaai track
  10. The weather is really miserable outside - although the airforce base nearby recons we can go for a quick spin at 11! So have been messing about on the pc, added some composites of the track as well as a pic of the new jump designed to throw you a bit higher and further! The composite above was taken before we added the section seen below
  11. I am quite new in this photography story - and have not got a new dedicated cannon flash yet. I have a techno friend who does weddings, and he mentioned that the cannons have very low trigger voltages, while most generic flashes have quite high voltages. He rewired my old flash with a modem transformer and relay and dropped the voltage from 130 to about 5!, and I have had no problems with the flash - except that the data does not pick it up it!
  12. Thanks Ronelle Happy birthday!!
  13. imba website full of good ideas
  14. Turn left just past absa, you will see the jumps. The track is a bit more difficult to find. Ride along the dirt track past the jumps up and over the hill and follow it for another 100m or so. Before you get to a dirt road look for the track on your left. As more guys ride it will be easier to find. Unfortunately our signs get swiped! Leet22 - thanks, but that's what we do well too
  15. Another thought - if anyone who has some seriously good bike skills is in the area during the school holidays - it might be an idea to do a demo during the local festival (Fees van die Ganse July 10,11,12) We will be having a 50 and 35km mtb race as well as a kiddies ride somewhere in the harbour and surrounds (about 3km). Please let me know
  16. Simthembile - we have loaned him a helmet - but he has brought some friends, so need more!
  17. Lindela - helmet sponsored by Omnico (won it a race we held on the track last year)
  18. The track is about a km long. A few ups and downs (as in step ups and a 2m rocky climb), then a 80m vibracrete ride up a hill, a fun little section with a few small dropoffs. The track is not worth driving out for (from Cape Town that is!)- but if anybody is ever in the Gansbaai area we would love some input. The jump section has a few nice jumps - we've gone about 5m in distance on the one. Then a couple of bmx style jumps. At this stage we are avoiding too big a jump as most of the bikes will not really cope (nor the riders!), but we have been amazed at how some of the children have progressed.
  19. Some more photos of the skills track - if you are ever in the area have a look-in! Most of the jumps and drops are quite easy but look intimidating, we have used an old dump site to build a bit of 'technical' single track to help some of the local children develop their bike skills.
  20. The track is lsowly gaining in popularity as it grows. If anybody has any ideas where we could get helmets for some of the Masakane kids please post!
  21. Some of us older guys struggling a bit with some of the jumps at the local jump track - but still smiling Although even some of the younger ones have their moments
