  1. I made my own tyre sealant for the last 3 years. It works better than stans and lasts easily for 6 months. Ingredients: distilled water , propylene glycol , liquid latex, xanthan gum (for keeping stuff in suspension), ammonia (to prevent latex clogging, though it coagulateas soon as it shears through a hole), braaipap mieliemeel, dog hair. I don't use glitter. I use a combination of course mieliemeel and dog hair/dryer lint. Mieliemeel: Stans use it too. I use Braaipap - it is about 0.4 - 0.6 mm, which is the same size as Stance Dog hair/dryer lint: I like the fibre as it plugs bigger holes. Sludge also uses a fibre - it looks like dryer lint (the spookpoep you get in a tumble dryer). Jack Russel hair is short enough. The small amount of xantham gum keep all the solids in a nice suspension.
  2. I think pregnancy is much tougher than the Epic. 9 months of pain, hormone gets mixed up, you are at work for 8 months of it. You irritate the sh*t out of everyone else. And then there is a living creature coming out of you. Epic, you have food, entertainment by Dan, moral support, messages, injections, pain killers, a staff of about 200+ persons to cater for you. I have done 4 of it. It is only about 40 hours, then it is over. No stretch marks, people sucking on your nipples. Luckily, I am not equipped to be pregnant, and will do 0 of this "Epics"
  3. Spare a thought for the road builders. It only takes a few riders to take a short cut and a trail is established - straight up/down hill. We have to honour the trail builders and this is exactly what the ACE does with this massive penalty. Well done. Cutting out switchbacks is the root of erosion. Next sin to stamp out is littering.
  4. It is a cut-and-paste combination of the 2009 and the 2012 Cape Epics. They only have to make sure to replace the Adidas branding from the 2009 markers...
  5. I am doing this overhaul on Mavic Cross Ride since 2009. No problem. Bearings are standard. 3 x bigger ones, and one smaller one at the free wheel hub. Forgot the exact dimensions, you can get it on Mavic's web site. Watch out for excessive hammering. I use a piece of threaded rod as a bearing puller. This will pull the bearing parallel to the axial line. Also, hammering is avoided when when you pull in a new bearing on its outer racing [ring]. You will find that one of the sockets in a socket set has an outside diameter [OD] a little smaller than the bearing's OD. If you find a job simple, then it is not neccessary to run to your LBS - do you take your bike to the LBS to pump the tyres?
  6. See the following link: www.nobrakes.de/technik/sidxcservicetool.htm It is in German. You can make the tool sommer yourself and don't pay RS the 1000% mark-up for the tool.
