A sad loss to South African cycling, we met Basil in 1975 and he was Mister Cycling then and still was up to the day of his passing. He made us welcome when we first went into his shop , and introduced Alan and I to a constitution he had for Schools cycling and we set to and formed STSCA and it grew country wide from there, indirectly he was responsible for Colin becoming a World Champion . He was a great man as a friend and as an employer as we both spent time behind the counter at Deale and Huth . We were always pleased to receive regular correspondence ,over the years from Basil ,keeping us up to date on his family and the progress of Cycling in South Africa . In the nearly thirty years we have been back in the UK , Basil never forgot us Our sincere condolences to his family, Adele, Helen and Jack and other family members. Ann, Alan and Colin Sturgess
