  1. Post will have a marking on it for minimum insertion length. IMO 20cm is plenty. Previous owner's riding with it further out might have made the initial crack, not you. In my ignorance I had a seatpost that was too far out. Luckily I bent the post before I cracked the frame. Although, I'm thinking a seatpost cause will make it crack down the tube following the clamp slit? This looks like the top tube weld?
  2. Damn, I didn't think the hate was this strong. Then again, this is bikehub. I'll just climb back into my shell. Never mind, I'll just go along then. Was just wondering, wasn't picking a fight.
  3. So, I visited the very fair Cape Town and surrounds from Pta, taking the bike along. I kuiered very lekker with my brother, having not seen hom in six months, so my planned rides to Tokai and the like didn't happen. I did, however, did a return from Houtbaai to Signal Hill. Man, the climbing and wind was proper. The views, however, of the beautiful sea, Twelve Apostles and Table Mountain from the top of Signal hill made up for that. I'm used to, whether training or commuting in Pta and Jhb, to wave at other cyclists, and 99.9% I get a wave back. On my 40km odd ride, of the 50 or so other cyclists I saw and waved at, only one elderly gentleman gave me a nod. I'm not trying to ruffle tail feathers, I'm just wondering, but what's up with that? Are you only worried about dropping your R60k Spez roadie?
  4. First: N+1 Second: Absolutely depends on the route. If you stay in the city, only flat tarmac, I would go rigid mtb with road tyres. Lighter bike, but can take a bit of curb-hopping. If there are a few hills around, I'll go geared, but still rigid.
  5. From Buycycle's site... "HADAR is the designated tires for the 48HR endurance Race of Taiwan" Dunno if they actually know what loose, sharp rocks are. Although, neither do you Capies...
  6. My very first time riding cleats, I decided to brave Big Red Barn... alone... Got on, fell over. Should have gotten back into the car... Anyway, I stopped counting how many times I fell on that ride, but the funniest/worst was getting to the top of a steep table top. It's on a section I don't normally ride. Got to the top, and was just congratulating myself, unclipped left (YES!!!), fell over to the right (#$@!!). Rolled onto my back, right foot still clipped, and the wheels get caught in the branches of the Wattle tree. Bike not budging, can't unclip, lying on my back with the bike on top, head pointing down the slope. WTF do I do now??
  7. My first "Winter Fast One" race, was barrelling down the flat jeep track. Spectacular OTB. ensues. Just had time to look up from the long grass on the side and see my bike doing its second front flip, before doing a solid flat landing on the saddle. Asked (very loudly) "WTF did just happen??" to the very amused riders around me. Saddle moertoe, spent 20 minutes trying to bend the rails more or less back into shape, ended up standing and pedaling most of the way to the finish. No scars on me, but new saddle and handlebars. Went back to where I think I should have gone wrong, but really no idea what I hit (or what hit back).
  8. :hijack on: Had a full sense of humour breakdown this morning at an IDIOT that almost ran me over 'cause he was on his friggen' cell. :hijack off:
  9. Noobs that have no clue what strava is for. Flag the ride. Strava admin sorts that quickly.
  10. Apparently this is a THING... From https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/162184-reckless-squirrels/?hl=squirrel
  11. Not quite, should have put more in it. This is passing any vehicle travelling in the same direction as you, not just vehicles turning right. 6.45 OVERTAKING / PASSING The driver/rider of a vehicle intending to pass any other vehicle proceeding in the same direction on a public road shall pass to the right thereof at a safe distance and shall not again drive on the left side of the roadway until safely clear of the vehicle so passed. Exceeding the speed limit when overtaking/passing is not permissible. Passing on the left of such vehicle shall be permissible if the person driving the passing vehicle can do so with safety to himself or herself and other traffic, and— a. the vehicle being passed is turning to its right or the driver/rider thereof has signalled his or her intention of turning to his or her right; b. such road is a public road in an urban area and— i. is restricted to vehicles moving in one direction; and ii. the roadway is of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles; c. such road is a public road in an urban area and the roadway is of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles moving in each direction; d. the roadway of such road is restricted to vehicles moving in one direction and is divided into traffic lanes by appropriate road traffic signs; or e. he or she is driving in compliance with the directions of a traffic officer.
  12. eNatis' Rules of the Road 6.45 Passing on the left of such vehicle shall be permissible if the person driving the passing vehicle can do so with safety to himself or herself and other traffic, and— ".." ii. the roadway is of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles; Surely there is no other place for cyclists if there are no cycle lane? If it gets narrow I hop onto the pavement, but otherwise I'm on the road.
  13. What is it to him? Where must you ride then? He just got a fright because he was not paying attention.
  14. " And I immediately wonder what bike he has, and then ogling, en then envying 'cause I didn't cycle this morning, and his bike is better than mine, and.... " I usually do this when I'm driving, not riding
  15. Imploder, on 29 May 2017 - 1:47 PM, said: People are ignorant in general about two-wheeled commuters. I have a big-assed motorbike, making enough light to host a day-night cricket match, and making enough noise to make a hot-rod sound like a Rolls, but they still do this. But the light in front does make these kind of occurrences less. You are noticed. When driving, and I see a proper light on a bike, I kinda think this oke is probably pedaling harder than a township commuter. And I immediately wonder what bike he has, and then ogling, en then envying 'cause I didn't cycle this morning, and his bike is better than mine, and.... There are a few roads that are worse regarding this, like Botha avenue, where I finally have the wide shoulder after the city mess, and get a head of steam going.
  16. Does anyone have any idea of what Wesbank asks for interest rates? Or is that an individual assessment? Currently my credit card is being maxed, and savings depleted, to finance the upgrades to the house my wife has been nagging for for 5 years...
  17. Dink nie so nie. You are going to miss 4 spokes. How do you decide which spokes must miss out? Tension needs to be the same all round.
  18. I'm guessing this is a N+1 option? What do you normally ride?
  19. Silverback. Hands down. EDIT: Check frame size. Can't see a descriptor on the gumtree ad. XL is huge.
  20. Old, beaten-up Sola 4, but still going strong. Really try to take her everywhere, and have ridden thousands of kilometers.
  21. No man. Some nice metaphysical, astrological pondering on a slow ride, then you come here all logical. Does explain it though...
  22. I have Shimano M355 on my Silverback, pretty much bomb-proof. Have done a few OTB's when I started out on them Reviews on the M315 are very good. R1K for new brakes is awesome. Noise on the Elixirs should only come from the pad/rotor combination ? (correct me if I wrong). Could be sorted with resin pads? Can't comment on trustworthiness.
