  6. Just a quick story on how we met each other. In 2018 after the prize giving he asked me to take a photo for him under the finish banner for his sponsors. Well for some reason my son Ruben wanted to be in the photo as well and Masango told me it will be great to have him in the photo. So that photo got posted everywhere. In 2019 the same happened and in 2020 at the start again. When we speak over the phone he will always ask how his little friend is doing. Over the weekend one of my cycling friends from Bloemfontein phoned me and told me that Ruben and myself are in the Masango Munga story video. Musango never told me they were making a video but I must say, I am really honored to be in it and part of it because he is really a remarkable person.
  7. Hi All, I really appreciate all the comments and I will do my best on Part 5 and 6. Work had me occupied so I haven’t started on them as of yet. But I promise I will have something over the weekend.... Take care and happy training????????

  13. Hi All, I've receive a couple of requests, questions and comments regarding my 3rd place position in 2020. Will do my best to add as much detail as possible to what I can remember and try to give you the feeling of what we went through on the road. Please don't give much attention to my grammar or spelling mistakes :) I can't even promise that it will be a good read....maybe I should have posted more pictures in Part 1 to avoid some of the pain some of you will endure for reading this. I really would like to put some time aside for writing this but can't promise how fast I will be posting Part 2. Munga Part 1.docx
  14. Well, I do not have a photo now with everything on. What I can say is that I weigh-in at 67kg and with my bike it's 91.7kg. That is a 24.7kg bike fully loaded with water spares etc. And no I'm not taking the freezer with...
  15. One week to go boys and girls. Whoop whoop. Can't wait...... #lifechangingexperience Ek # tag sommer iets wat ek nog nooit gedoen het nie. Dit behoort als te verduidelik van hoe opgewonde ek is.
  16. Thanks Walkerr, at first I thought I did not receive the file, it was stuck in my junk mail. Think it is because of the attachments. So for the rest, check your junk [emoji6] if you haven't received it as of yet...
  17. I am also thinking about running the Garmin 520 and Etrex20x in combo as my 520 missed some routes in the past. Really would like to avoid getting lost because of my GPS.
  18. My setup from Wolftooth double bottle adapter and the bottom one is fitted with cable ties. Works perfectly for me...
  19. Happy training everyone....
  20. My Munga setup is coming on nicely. Everything feels solid and I'm happy behind the bars.
  21. @ Bat - that is very true. Was just reading all the old cycling war stories about FS, HT and now the gravel bikes. I will be doing the Munga on my full suspension because that is what I've been using for the last 2 years. The mind is a very powerful thing, all depend on how you use it. About the camelbak. I've been using that since forever, and maybe thats the reason why I hate it so much. But at the end I might just use it again..
  22. So a quick question to all the experienced Munga guys. How did the gravel bikes do on this race and would you consider something like a gravel bike for this race? Some people say the only bike for this race is a full suspension to save your body a little more. Would like to hear what you guys think...
  23. The thing is that I will be using the saddle bag so the option for bottles at the back of the saddle is a bit out the window. I'm thinking of going with my camelbak option although I really don't like it. The Munga has been my dream since it began. But the entry fee is the cheap part. Getting the rest and the bike ready is the expensive part as I did not have much for such a big event. But hey, it is an adventure after all...
  24. So at this stage I am using my Merida Carbon MTB for the Munga. I really do not want to carry any weight on my back so decided to go with bottles on my mtb. However the Carbon Full suspension frame is made for one bottle. Any good products to add bottles to the bottom frame and maybe on the forks? Have been looking at Wolftooth products.
  25. Also joining the club as entry has been done. Yes I am financialy broke and my 2 sons are not getting any hot wheel toys till end of the year. But Munga here we come. Did a nice ride with Vetseun over the weekend. Really nice to know someone with so much knowledge around the do's and don't's. Must say was really jealous about his bike when we climbed over a fence and I felt how lightweight his bike is. Mine weighs a ton compared to that nice gravel eater.
