  1. Off the top of my head (those not mentioned), momsen al655/651, titan comp/elite, merida big seven range (XT edition down). You may be able to get a Scott scale 760 for around there as well. There are of course others, and some of the above may be above your stretch (unless you haggle ) Momsen and silverback seem to offer the best value from what I see. Once you have a short list, see if you can try a few out, some may just feel "wrong" even set right... An uncomfortable mtb will kill any enthusiasm Forgot to mention, 2015 bikes are coming out, you should start seeing prices dropping on 2014 ranges in the next 2 months or so...
  2. I am new to this - and am in the same position as you - however the above is not really a fair comparison, from a "spec war" the slade wins (air forks, better components), it is however more costly... even the 710 will lose the same war it largely depends on what you will use it for.... best advice I can give is speak to your LBS, give them your budget and test ride what ever you can get your hands on... what feels the best within your price range, is the one to get
  3. thanks guys - will definately take that adivce
  4. so here we have yet another thread shes turning 10 in december, looking at the 24" mtbs out there they seem to be around 3k (with near enough the same spec)... and now the conundrum... should I go for this or an xs 26"? she loves her brothers bike (and is always hounding him to ride it ), but its too big for her (S). she's not much shorter than him (3 inches), and I haven't done inseam measurements etc.... but from you good folk who have faced the same dilemma, do I go 24" and flog (in 1-2 yrs), or xs 26"? if she rides her brothers small, we have to lower the saddle to about an inch from the bottom (to give some reference)
  5. Thanks Muggins, I'll try that... If that fails, try load a bit more on and get from the US
  6. Nevermind guys, found another post on it Looks like it's around 20% for a bike rack
  7. Thanks guys, I was hoping I missed an obvious site or local merchant. When I got it I was happy, until I tried to use it.... Intl it is then... Anyone know off the top of their head what the average import duties are on cycling equip? (looking at solving my bike rack problem...)
  8. hi guys I got an amex gift card from work - do you know of any local stores (or local online) that accept amex?
  9. Hi all With the advent of my sons new MTB and the ridiculous driving positions we endured on the way home after picking it up (small 26" into a 3dr fiesta - seat belts were optional, leaning back onto your seat was not an option...) - we need to get a rack... tow bar is too expensive (I won't be able to slide that one past the "financial director"), so I'm stuck with boot mount I've read some horror stories - so am a little concerned, plus my budget is limited right now (1700). Any opinions on what I should be looking at, first hand experiences etc. Logan's already started with, "Dad, you need to get a bike..." and we have Jennifer chiming in with "Dad, when do I get a bike like Logan's?" I can hear my bank account screaming in the night.... no wait, that's me... so we are looking at something that can handle 3 bikes....
  10. Hi everyone In the past few months my son has been on at me to get him a new bike (his BMX being battered and too small for him now). As it was nearing his birthday I have been reading up on the forums and looking for a decent LBS.... I got lucky, a decent LBS was close by so I popped into Cycle-tech to have a quick look, now armed with pseudo-understanding gained through reading. While being shown around we hovered around a Scott 620 at which point the buzzwords came out - it became very quickly apparent to the guys and I, that I didn't have a clue As the days counted down, visits became more frequent and more info and understanding was gleaned.... about a week before d-day Logan and I went in for a "measuring" - the bike was too small, and there were no other specials of his size (S), so we went away to have a think... 2 days later I was back and I had a chat to Marco, do I go for the Scott 2013 620 (and possibly replace in a year), or is there something else... he quickly did a check, phoned around and offered a list. I left, more decisions to be made. The next day I went in residing on the 620 (the others at the same spec were beyond my range) - as soon as we started talking, he got thoughtful - spoke to reps, and came back - similar spec, in a small and will be there by the end of the week. True to his word the bike was ready, and was picked up by Logan (my son) and I on his b-day, on the way home he didn't shut up and once there disappeared into the complex on his bike and we didn't see him until 6 he came back knackered, but with a grin from ear to ear Having read some of the horror stories, I felt this needed to be shared - the guys at cycle-tech will definitely see me again. There knowledge, compassion and customer service is fantastic, I'd recommend them in a heart-beat. To Marco and co - that grin was made possible by yourselves, I cannot thank you enough!!
