  1. I'm a Capetonian living in Botswana. I missed out on doing the Argus as I only started cycling last year so my first time was the cycle tour solidarity ride. I was SO glad is was shortened because I didn't train as hard as I should have, so 47km on a Sunday morning around my home town was great. I got online as soon as I heard entries were open, stayed online for an hour and got my bookings in. Hooray! Bottom line: change is the only constant. And where people are reluctant to think too hard, they follow trends. I don't care. I will submit my application or whatever every year (as long as I can afford it), in whatever way i'm required to. If I get in, great. If I don't, subs or try again the next year.
  2. Hey everybody, does anyone know where i could find a pair of cable housing stop adaptors for aluminium frame? Oh wow, Warthog... your MUCH better half, you mean
  3. Hi Fixer Too small for me, too... looking for medium frame (think that's 57-58cm?)
  4. Very cool My idea is to get a good frame that needs a little bit of work (i'm a novice mechanic) so I can clean it up and do a custom paint jobbie, then fit it out as and when I can. Obviously has to be a cx frame with mounts for disc brakes. Just need to find one...
  5. its gorgeous but I really want to do the build it myself thing...
  6. Heya everybody So I was paging through a friend's 1001 bikes (gotta get my own!) and somehow the thought popped into my head of getting hold of a cx steel frame and mod-fitting it, sort of like what MTBaaisikilist wants to do, but cx frame. Are they even available, and what would they cost?
  7. Hey Loose Cog I just had a look at the JP Routens and the detailing on the frame seems to be an exact match - the seatpost looks exactly like the one we have, also. Shot for tracking that down - I think it's a winner! Will keep investigating for age, though.
  8. Thanks dude, I did take my time taking them. Interesting stuff, wouldn't have thought it was French. The BB is actually totally busted - feels really clogged up and wonky going forward and wont rotate more than a quarter in reverse, and that was why we didn't want to try to remove it. Yeah, the headset looks very similar to the one on the Bianchi, except for the fact that it doesn't say Bianchi - or anything else. Will look at Velo website.
  9. Heya Loose Cog Took a pic of the BB lug, no numbers or letters! Cable guide just says Made in France. Haven't tried removing the BB because we're not sure how to go about it - think we're missing the right tool...
  10. Here, finally, are pictures of my buddy's steel campagnolo bicycle. (Sorry for the looong delay, Loose Cog) He got it from a friend who got it as a prize at some competition (can't remember exactly). We'd like to help him clean it up a bit - there are little flecks of rust all over the frame, the front brake is missing and the levers are a bit battered. We'd also love some more info about the bike - year, model, etc? We think it's late 70s... Also included a pic of our early 80s 022 Ishiwata Bianchi Special. Thanks to you, Loose Cog, it has its original stem back (still haven't fitted that brake, though).
  11. I have played around with lever position and handlebar tilt and have reached a best-fit situation, but still cant comfortably operate the brakes or shifters. Tried tracking down an A-headset adaptor but no luck so far. And the y-foils were only produced 1998-99.
  12. where'd you find them and how much did you pay?
  13. mid 90s to mid 2000s
  14. apparently trek wanted to appeal specifically to the racing fraternity, so it was built as a racer. after the uci stipulated that all bikes had to have a seat post, the y-foil was doomed, so if they had originally specced it as a tri bike it would've probably been hugely successful...
  15. here's my baby :-) She came sans seat and post, but I like the black post the shop gave me. The serious lack of aesthetic of the stone-age bottle cage is irksome, but it works, so will have to do until I get something prettier that fits.
  16. Cheers, will post pic l8r
  17. By fluke I was given a trek y-foil 66 as my first road bike a few months ago. I love it to smithereens but having a bit of trouble with the classic handlebars, as my hands are too small for me to reach the brake levers when I'm in the drops, and overall not working for me ergonomically. I'd love to swap them out for more modern ergonomic or even compact shape, but have a threaded headset that will only accommodate 26mm diameter handlbars, and I don't want to have to change my fork to get threadless modern headset. Am I living in la-la land?
  18. Looks good, just need hubby to see (its actually his bike). Cant really make an offer as I've no idea what they're worth! Gimme an idea? Also re stem, all I really need is something off a small frame - the size matters more than the brand. So if you have one lying around that needs a home...
  19. Pics as requested. Do you have any hood covers?
  20. Sweet! Will post pics asap...
  21. Yay!!! me too!! been racking my brains to try to remember his name. Tried emailing Supersport but didn't seem to work...
  22. I bought a small-sized steel-framed bianchi a while back and am trying to find some components. it's a 022 ishiwata special, a real beauty. I'm looking for a replacement suntour (SR) stem, and Dia Compe rear brake calliper. Saw a guy on supercycling the other day that does restoration of steel-framed bikes but can't for the life of me remember his name. does anyone know where I could possibly source parts?
