  1. Do you have any suggestions about good trails at WB near Tranquilitas? I found a Strava route but no idea if this trail is still active or any good? https://www.strava.com/activities/178198045
  2. Much appreciated - thanks.
  3. Does anyone know where(when) they post the results from the MTB race yesterday?
  4. My 8 year old son has out grown his little Trek and I want to get him a proper MTB with 26" wheels, disk brakes etc. I had a look at an XS GT and although it had disks, Shimano components etc, it weighs about 14kg. Does anyone have any suggestions for a bike that wont cost more than R6k that doesn't weigh the same as a small motor car?
  5. Does anyone have any info here? I have tried the Suunto and although the Tacx seems to see a signal it is totally inaccurate so doesn't seem to be a solution. Any one know if the Sigma would work? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/sigma-pc-9-iii-women
  6. On this same topic, according to the www site the Flow measures Heart Rate: current, average, maximum. According to the box content there is nothing to do with the HR included (strap / sensor or whatever) so I am interested to know just how it measures heart rate????? CW Cycles I saw something here about having to have an external HRM : turbo trainer review I already have a Garmin Edge as well as a Suunto HRM - does anyone know if these are compatible with the flow?
  7. Winter has rolled around again (as it seems to do every year ) and I can't face cycling at 5:00am in the freezing dark. In the past the options were to go spinning but with the unreliability of instructors these days, I am thinking quite seriously about a static trainer for both myself and for my girlfriend. We both have full carbon road bikes as well as MTB bikes and I have heard there can be issues associated with cycling on normal tires. What about drive train, clusters etc? I would like to ask for any advise in this regard. Resistance trainers? Rollers? What about different tires? Wind resistance trainers? Problems? Is spending R10k on a computer based system worth it? I see that CW cycles was advertising the Tacx Satori for R2,500 - thoughts on this as an option? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/tacx-t1856-satori-trainer
  8. I have had Pythons suggested but not sure if one can get tubeless in 2.3 - 2.5. Anyone have any experience with them?
  9. I have upgraded to a set of Crank Brothers Iodine wheels but they are rated for tires between 2.3 - 2.5 inches so looks like my Crossmarks will not fit the bill. I want to try and get decent "light" UST tubeless tires in this width. I am based in JHB so ride mainly hardpack XC with the occasional Sani2C and Sabi race for good measure Any suggestions? 10. I have been riding with Ay-up for the last 2 years and they are brighter than anything else I have seen on the road or MTB trail . Bear in mind I am not a night racer and I want them mainly for early morning and late afternoon / evening riding with occasional night rides and races. The standard battery (about half the size of a cell phone) lasts 3 hours, and the extended battery lasts 6 hours ? all at full power with no noticeable diming at all. The dual beam light (which is a Cree LED) and battery is light enough to be mounted on your helmet while riding and I have yet to see anything that comes close to that light output for the weight. The beams are totally sealed and can be submerged under water so they are perfect for anything you will encounter on the trail. I recently bought a 3rd light as well as a new 3 hour battery that can both dim to double run time as well as flash - the flashing is good for mounting the light facing backwards and fitting red caps onto it as a "car flasher" for road riding. I normally ride with 1 light on the bars (wide beam) and a narrow beam on the helmet so it shines exactly where I am looking - that is enough light to get you through ANYTHING including very technical MTBing and would last 3 hours at full power. The charge-time is also impressive and while I have not measured it, I would guess it would be about 2 hours maximum for the std battery pack ? the charger that ships with the units I got can charge 2 batteries simultaneously. You can see more info on their www site www.ay-up.com.au and there is a guy importing them to SA www.easygis.co.za
  11. Thanks GFishy but I want to get a new bike. The 07 Dale is brand new but an 07 model so back to my dilemma On a similar topic, my GF also needs new wheels (her bike was also on the truck) and she wants to try and get a womens specific bike but wants full carbon and Ultegra. Seems only Scott has that but at R32k it is not cheap. Also looked at the Merida Scultura 905 in a Small as it is R10k less but can't seem to find stock anywhere - any ideas on where to get the Merida in stock (I have tried the agents) or other suggestions about alternatives? Originally looked at Raleigh's, but everyone in the trade we speak to had nothing good to say about Raleigh so now we have been put off them.
  12. I recently had my Scott cooked on a truck on the way to CT I am now in the market for a new road bike and wanted some advice. I have short-listed three bikes. 1. Trek Madone 4.7C (2009) with ULTEGRA SL, BONTRAGER wheels, carbon bars, seatpost etc. http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/madone/madone47/ 2. Specialized Roubaix (2008) with Full Ultegra, Easton SL60 and carbon bars and seatpost 3. Cannondale Supersix (2007) with Ultegra, shimano rims, Airone saddle etc. http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/07/cusa/road/systemsix/model-7RST3D.html All bikes carbon and brand new and Specialized and Trek will be about R34K and Cannondale will be about R5k more. Which would you get? http://www.specialized-sa.co.za/images/bikes/bikes/bike131.jpg http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/07/CUSA/large/7RST_clr.jpg http://www.trekbikes.com/images/bikes/2009/xl/madone47_whiteblack.jpg
