  2. sorry the box said 3 x 2 watt, 12volt
  3. Mountain Lion, no complaints about ML lights at all, just not working for me. no brains or time (got dark fast this winter) to do a proper fancy diy ML light. the konafan light was a quickish, simple effective solution for a non electro pro. i am not sure of total weights between ML light and Konafan light. we should probably do a full kit mass comparison for interest. i made a error on the smaller battery, it is a 1.2 ah (2 hour use) about 500grams. the 4 li ion pack i have does have some weight too. i am not sure of the current draw - the box just said - 2 x 3w, 12 volt. thanks for the NI MH battery idea - will try sometime. i am aware of possible battery damage on 12 volt - no protection - so far battery lasting - at R57 each, they cheaper than 2 x D durcells. i took some pics and will try post again - if i don't come right will try another plan.
  4. thanks - ordered direct from Shannon at Sunfor in JHB, dhl'ed to CT. Sunfor head office have 3 x 2 w on back order, not sure if they have stock yet. Suggest you deal with JHB if you want downlighter faster. Important to go for Cool White.
  5. Respect Konafan, Your solution is elegant and easy! Missioning with fancy li ion battries & chargers, imported LED's and LED drivers, heatsinks ETC, etc = was beaten. Li ion batteries tricky to work with, drivers complex to connect, heatsinks heavy, my experience with it. The 3 x 2 w (cool white), 12volt cree downlight by sunfor in 50 mm irrigation pipe, with .8 Ah (+-2 hour use - weight +-500g ) or 1.5 Ah (+4 hour use - weight +-800 g), works awesome. Costs around R500 yes, (LED price R300, battery price R50 - R150, pipe R25, clamp R25). Plenty light, just might be too much for on coming riders...Only one mode setting and that is either on or off! Old car charger - good job to chargE basic 12v lead acid batteries. These small batteries from Mantec Electronics. Can't post pics, don't have permission on hub.
  6. 1 x Cree XR-E Q5 Emitter on Premium Star (228LM at 1A) = 5.37* 23.36mm Optics/Light Diffusers for Cree Emitters (5 PACK) = 5.54* TrustFire Protected 18650 Lithium Battery (2500mAh 2-Pack) = 8.84* DSD 18650 CR123A Charger = 6.71* George's TaskLED bflex driver (still waiting for these to arrive) = 30 * = all dealextreme, you may wait week or two for some stock items. All in dollars. VAT paid at post office 14% on collection. Order extra 1 or 2 items - may need them as spares. Copper 22 mm stoppers are about R12 each. Downside, they are darn heavy - I am playing with aluminum pipe 22mm, old tv arial mast and bostik gasket sealer. battery pack, 18650's fit perfectly in a 20 mm irrigation pipe use gardina hose pipe fittings to close ends. Note: I've not put lights on yet, waiting for Bflex driver. Order that last, should be here in 2 weeks. Testing if this all works soon. My time: so far 6 hours of fun, priceless....
  7. follow mountain lion's instructions carefully, they are excellent. i am 80% from switching on my 3 x cree q5 in plumbing stopper lights. all stock arrive 100% from dealextreme i.e. cree led's, lenses, batteries, charger. well done to our postal system. just waiting for george's bflex.
  8. i see you have covered batteries on forum before - sorry did not see these. the battery guy in randburg is graham, have not yet got battery pack - but he seems to know his stuff. i am waiting for his charger solution before i buy his battery pack. his battery site: www.akita.co.za
  9. hi mountain lion, i have studied your diy 3 x cree light instructions carefully. my cree lenses arrived today. the q5 led's arrive in 12 days or so. george is sending the bflex drivers as i write. can you please advise on batteries. i have sourced a battery pack from a guy in randburg, similiar pack to your picture in blue, however he can't source a charger. he can only find a 12 v. charger. i understand we need at least 17 volt charger. i have not yet purchased battery pack. how are you charging your battery pack (the one in the pic - blue.) even better where did you get batteries and charger? hold thumbs, never soldered a drop before - determined to make mountain lion light. thanks enzo
