  1. Thanks for all the usefull (and not so usefull general) bits. At least I know who is on Ritalin. I learn pretty fast so getting used to the thumbshifting should be a breeze! The Centaur STI's are really good looking with the carbon levers. Seems to me that the Campy outfit is slightly higher spec and seems lighter with all the skeleton designs; so, Campy it will be! Anyone looking for a 2006 Raleigh RC6000 with full 105?
  2. Have the opportunity to upgrade to a Bianchi 928 C2C but not sure which group to keep. The Bianchi has Campy Veloce brakes, FD & RD with Chorus crank 172.5 and Centaur STI's. My current bike has full Shimano 105 group fitted - 2006 model just after the flightdeck facelift. Any advice?
  3. Anyone know how to contact Hanco Kachelhoffer? Apparently he does bike fitment for both road and MTB.
  4. Thanks guys.
  5. I have had a look at both systems but I'm not sure how they compare in use. They obviously work in a similar way, but the engagement (and more specific the dis-engagement) is different. Normally, the real advantages and downsides only come out when you have used them a while and not when trying them in the shop. Any comments and feedback from use?
  6. Jeez guys, thanks for all the advise. I think I have a remedy for all the possible puncture types! I will try to glue a patch on the inside and if that doesn't work, i will use the "glue-with-inner-tube-plug"as the hole is pretty small. By the way, a guy at the LBS said that the STANS sealant works better than JOE'S (his opinion and some published literature) as it has small particles that assists with sealing larger holes and the JOE'S has too much ammoniac that affects the rubber. Any views on this?
  7. Thanks for all the advise! I'll try the soapy water t verify the position of the leak an take it from there. Think I'll give the blowtorch a skip - it;s better suited to creme brules!
  8. I had a puncture on a MAXXIS LUST Monorail last week which sealed itself using Joe's sealant. I find that the tyre is loosing pressure a lot faster than previously which indicates that the holes didn't seal that well - small cut of ?3mm long. Should I do a patch repair on the inside of the tyre? If so, what would the procedure be?
  9. Thanks levett. I also have access to shim material. This should solve the potential interchangeability issues. To find a second set of wheels (with 160mm rotors) is the next challenge!
  10. Thanks for the feedback. Is it common that the re-alignment required is as small as 0.2mm? If so, shimming the rotor could be a clean solution!
  11. Looking to get a second set of wheels but need to be sure about fitment. I have WTB Speedisc wheels with a 160 mm centre lock rotor. Would wheels with a bolt-on rotor fit into the disc calipers without having to adjust anything?
  12. Thanks for the info - this model came with a Manitou fork (not sure about the model). However, I was devided between a full suspension and hardtail bike and decided to go for the hardtail option (DEMO Jamis Dakota Sport).
  13. Price would be ?R7,000 second hand, but in mint condition. Also, I wouldn't be doing aggresive trail riding but rather jeep tracks with some single track included - no serious drops and jumps.
  14. Any comments on the performance of this bike? The rear shock cannot lock-out as far as I can see (ROCKSHOX DART). I think it is a 2006/7 model.
  15. Thanks for the input guys. I thought that the points you made were the solution; just had to check. Unfortunately, secondhand XL bikes are pretty hard to find so I guess looking for decent smaller one would be the answer. However, can get a DEMO Jamis Dakota Sport for a decent price. Seems like a good bike to start with.
  16. I recently dusted off my Raleigh RM2.0 bought in 2002/2003 for general riding around. Now that I started riding it on jeep tracks and some single tracks I realize that it needs some SERIOUS upgrading or replacing. It weighs 15 kg's and has the following components: 7005 Custom tubing (XL - 23") weight unknown - I am 1.94 m tallSR Suntour XC-60 forkSR Suntour CW-XCC150-PB cranksAlivio RDSome Shimano FD (could be 515)ALEXRIMS DM18 wheels - 24 speed cluster Tektro V-BrakesSome kind of Shimano combination brake lever/shiftersIs it worth upgrading components onto the frame or should I just go for a completely "new" setup (I would probably buy second hand)? The frame looks quite well built and strong; although I could be wrong. I have attached a photo.Tarpon2009-05-03 10:27:28
