  1. I have an old model Alpina bike im trying to sell. Its got the gears on the side of the bike (sorry dont have technical terms) and the brakes are where they normally are on a road bike. The person im selling the bike to wants to change the brakes to a MTB brake position ie on the top of the handle bar. Is this possible? Can I do it myself? Can I just move the existing brakes to the top of the bar or do i have to put on MTB brake levers? Tyring to do this as cheap as possible so not looking for top quality parts. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks
  2. thanks guys - but I wanna be comfortable and enjoy the view way before im 60...and im happy to ride behind with the girls
  3. I have a road bike but I want to also try out mountain biking - which is better hardtail or softtail? Im not planning on doing the Epic or anything, its just for fun on weekends really...
  4. Hi, Ive just got a bike, all excited to get out on the road and learn what to do and how to do it so...Does anyone know of a group ride in my area, my area being wanderers/bramley/highlands north/linksfield etc
  5. I have an 06 RC3000 - great looking bike, Tiagra groupset. I paid R2950 I think at the time, in my mind a bit much for an 06 RC3000, but considering what people are trying to sell them at now, it may have been a bargain. If you can get an RC3000 at a good price ~R3000.00 go for it, it will take you sometime before you can say the bike is holding back your race times. Daxiet, you seem to know quite a bit about the raleigh. If you could get a RC3000 (2005) for R2500 would you go for it? There is one available, im thinking to take it but need some advice 1st. Thanks
  6. yip - seems like thats the way its heading Master. Pitty its such an expensive sport to take up..

  8. I want to ask a question for the average joe who cant afford the thousands and thousands that apparently need to be spent on a bike. I have an Alpine?, it was given to me, not in great condition but I can fix it up for about R1000. I havent cycled before, not sure if I will enjoy it and most certainly cant afford more than that for a bike. Is it worth it to fix up an ok road bike, to see if I like the sport, then at a later stage upgrade to something a bit more pricey?
  9. I would like to get into cycling, before I start i'd like opinions on which to try 1st, mountain biking or road biking?
