  1. And which tri bars would you suggest on the flat handlebars? The knot systembar on the hi-mod models is flat and and so are the vision metron 4d that come on the other ones. Asking because doing this was exactly my plan, I ordered the ultegra model, planning to also use it for the occasional TT, but now it seems I need to buy the whole vision 4d flat MAS system (which includes handlebars) at a horrendous price just to get the clip on tri bar part?
  2. IMG_20180622_101853.jpg Exactly what the hart longs for. But the budget forces to settle for the (wmn) CF SLX 8.0 instead. The claimed weight of 7.7kg still beats my supersix though which is well over 8kg.
  3. Thanks, pretty much the responses I expected but still hoped for 'nah the discs won't completely take over for at least another 10 years'.
  4. It is time to add another steed to my (still modest) stable. It will be an aero road bike. I don't really want the disc version, quite content with rim brakes but I am wavering between the disc and rim options for the following reasons: If I choose rim brake, It will save me a couple of grand, and I can still use my current racing wheels on new bike when needed. Thus I would prefer rim.BUT considering future selling of said new bike, will I struggle to get rid of it in say 2/3 years because rim brakes might have become completely phased out by that time? This is the only reason really why I would consider the disc version.Thoughts?
  5. This was actually my first stop yesterday for the AC Sprint Road set I was looking for which shows on their website 'in stock', but which they then didn't actually have in stock unfortunately. I will enquire though if they still have these perhaps.
  6. Yes i read that thread about AC having closed down and thus also figured that if no shops here have stock, I might just look at another brand because they will probably not get stock again. Problem is, I don't live in SA, just in CT for the weekend so even if a shop or supplier in Jhb or so would still have the AC it would take too long to have them couriered to CT. BUT I found a set of Zipp 302's for 17000. A bit above my budget but apparently a great deal. Thoughts?
  7. Nope weight limit is no factor - 58kg lady.
  8. Not sure if I could get carbon for that amount? I don't mind taking alu because as far as I can't see that carbon ones are not really lighter? What is the advantage of carbon wheels? Just stiffness? (Very new to road biking and a bit dom with all the tech stuff). Wanted to buy the AC sprint 350 as they seem pretty light and are tubeless. But looks like they are out of stock everywhere I checked.
  9. Started doing some road races on my bike this year, and want to upgrade my wheels. Or rather, I want an extra set of wheels for racing. I feel a bit lost and don't know what tot look for. My budget is not enormous, any suggestion what a good wheelset would be up to 10000?
  10. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  11. Hi, I am fed up with ending up having bought shoes that make my toes go numb after 45 minutes. Any recommendations? Thanks
  12. 71cm. I have tried the bike shop's medium demo model and though it felt slightly big upfront it still rode absolutely fantastic - I tried out the older Scalpel in a small as well and like you say, the old one doesnt compare. Basically I am probably looking for justification to get the med SI with a shorter stem or so to make it fit....
  13. Need some help here: I want to get the Scalpel SI 3. Currently I am on a medium hardtail (17") and my previous bike was a medium as well. Both felt slightly oversized though and not well fitting. I am 169cm - thus on the border of s/m but have long legs and according to my inseam measurement a medium should actually fit. Since my former medium sized bikes didn't feel great I have been set on getting a small this time around. BUT after much consideration I definitely don't want the 27.5 which the small comes in. My options are now either the SI 3 in a medium or a 2016 small frame build up. Scalpel owners of smaller statue, please render me some advice here.
  14. Thanks, and good luck with your baby plans! You see, that is more in line with what I hoped my doctor would say (she is also very active, runs half-marathons etc.) so I was quite miffed when she told me to take it easy. :-( I will try and listen more to my body, if Zones 3 to 4 feel fine and comfy, I'll keep doing it. If it is tiring, I will take it easier.
  15. Indulging and getting fat - sounds a lot like my first pregnancy! Prior to baby no. 1 exercising was a curse word in my vocabulary, I smoked a pack a day, and was living in general a very unhealthy lifestyle. Needless to say, I got super-fat, since I didn't bother much about eating healthy and exercising during pregnancy (and also quit smoking, so more cravings...). I took up cycling after my baby was born, and damn, almost fainted after that first 5km!! It took me around 2 years to shed the 25kgs I gained. So I really REALLY want to stay kind of fit (obviously no races anymore), and not feel like a train ran me over the first time I climb on the bike agai. Thanks for the encouragement! :-)
