Delgado - Have there been any to date? yes, there was 1 white kid but as far as I know he lost interest due to external factors. Shaun, We were and are still very keen to get involved with your project. This is not the forum to be fighting. As previously asked, please send the proposal as I requested three months ago.

With regards to Shaun and his signs................. PPA was and still keen to be involved in the Cape but have not success in getting more info from him. I've had talks with the City of Cape Town staff who are keen to be involved. So, we are not as apathetic but awaiting more info to be forthcoming

LCA does not discriminate ito of colour. Yes, they may be based in Khaya but should a white kid come who has finincial constraints and potential committment, they would be considered I believe. This is not about race but creating opportunities and building a culture and love for cycling which was suppressed. Yes, there are commuters but we need to move onto the next level........

Guys, The LCA has chosen these kids on merit!!!!!!!! There were coloureds and whites were also eligible for selection but didn't meet the critreia with the exception of 1 - Kurt. Most of you fail to see the bigger picture........... these okes are icons in their community. I've been to the clubhouse. Here 100's of kids stand around waiting for an opportunity to ride. And yes, you may say......... use the money for them but CSC has extended an invitation to these guys and the potential partnership is going to be cemented and we in SA will be reaping the rewards. What this space. LCA has been successfull in having the then Liberty now Acsis Team. Yes, they may not be on the podiums too often but they are there in the bunches. Luthando was selected for the UCI B's as a sample of the results. As for the Raleigh's of CSA, I agree 500% that there was no sustainable support and assistance for the handout. These guys here work for what they have and know that the equipment is not theirs and can be taken away should they fail to ride or continue to show interest PPA supports this initaitive and we give them our full support and blessing. They do great work and we are honoured to be associtaed with them and their efforts.
  8. I'm there too. Still have space for mechanical back-up for the teams
  9. Mallo, I agree about the quota system is crap but that's one of the ways to get the awareness out there
  10. I believe that thecycling is a close knitt community, who occasionally takes note of new comers unless they show potential by kicking ass!!!!!!!! I agree about the Springbok issue, but we need to somehow open people's eyes to move away from the blinkers. "Life is not always about me" - give something back, to grow the sport and make it better
  11. I agree with the "quota" system, except that the riders need to be of equal ability - which is a bit difficult to find. This is due to lack of funding and effort to be involved by all the loud mouths!!! If there are more willing people to help with development and nurturing of young riders, then the gap will be bridged sooner. Please look at ways of offering assistance to local clubs in your area through the local associations like PPA, GPPA, CGU or contact the CSA office for a contact in your region. My 2c
  12. the UK based trainer is Jeff Beach. We are in the process of sourcing potential national trainers to be based in their cities. As for the cost, will have to come back to you. There are 7 levels - from basic componetry to complete strip and reassemble. Their will also be a special course on wheel building.
  13. we are in the final stages of putting it together. The master trainer will be training me and others in mid October. The first course will be mid November I think. Watch this space ....... will keep you in the loop
  14. Hi guys and Dolls, Thanks for the comments and thoughts. In conjunction with Weldtite, Life Development Academy, PPA and the thus far Dept. of Transport, I'm co-ordinating and will be presenting along with other qualified persons, a national 6 level Bicycle Mechanical Course which is accredited in the UK. Thses courses will be presented to persons like us, regular riders and to disadvantaged communities with the aim of educating the commuters and possible job creation. Would you support such an initiative?
  15. Morning all, Was wondering if any-one of a bicycle mechanical course presently happening to broaden my knowledge of how my bike works. Thanks
