  1. The GT Marathon 2 looks a nice bike and was tempted to buy it through the internet (2008 model)for just over R10,000 however the import duties, VAT and postage would have added R5K to it and it would only be R4000 cheaper and then I would have no guarentee. A little risky so I decided to leave it.
  2. Yes, I have ordered it through a Durban shop. They unfortunately didn't have my size as I needed a XL so they are getting it via Cape Town. Said I could take it for a ride once they get, planning on the adjacent park. The smaller size they have is unfortunately a bit small for me.
  3. I am not sure whether my model is a 970 or not but I have the 3 bike carrier. I have noted that with 3 bikes loaded at about 40kg (max. carrying weight 45kg) and looking in the rear view mirror there is movement on a gravel and potholed road. Have never had a problem in using it over the last year however have thought that there may be some stress to the frame with movement on the dirt roads. Is not affected on normal tarred roads travelling to a race.
  4. It's good to hear about your ride on the Raleigh. I have ordered a Mongoose Canaan Comp for a testride and should be contacted by the end of the week. I like you have always ridden a hardtail however I think with those longer races it will be good to have FS. Took the GT marathon for a ride at Giba recently & was very impressed however it is R40,000 which is almost 3x what I was looking at.
  5. Hope you can give us a review after a test ride this week-end. Would like to hear how it goes.
  6. The 2008 Mongoose Comp is available in Durban ex. Cape Town for approx. R13000.
  7. Am upgrading from a Silverback Reno to a Mongoose Comp. Don't know anything about the Raleigh but the local bike shop has recommended the Mongoose. Only thing I am not sure about is the tyre tread which I believe is fast but it may not be good through mud especially after a coastal storm. Any comments on the tyres?
