  1. Hi Induna Can you clarify which of the 2 different courses you show for the "36km" (first half of 73km marathon) is correct please? The garmin plot by 7hendrik77 goes around the sabi river sun resort and has a long section at start and end of route on the same track (the first google earth map under route description also shows this), whereas the 2 individual google earth plots for the half and full marathons differ in that the route does not go around sun resort and a long loop at the start is missing... PS marathon course looks outstanding. never ridden the area before and doing a little homework.....
  2. Agreed - 2 yrs is ridiculous - UCI/CSA need to adjust maximum penalties - who needs cheats at any level in any sport, ever? My recommendation - life ban, repay all winnings, criminal charges of fraud and theft should be pursued by police - won't take long to clean up sport.
  3. Couldn't they find a bigger hill?
  4. I am interested to get an idea from cyclists in general (weekend warriors, elite racers, road, mtb, social riders etc) of how they think drug cheats should be dealt with. My opinion - ban them for life from all levels of competition in all sports. Allocate more funds to laboratory testing etc, and trapping procedures. The option to allow drug cheating would eventually kill cycling. There will always be some secondrate cyclists who cheat. But with a culture of zero tolerance I would expect that should they escape sanction because of failures in the system, then their contemporaries would smell them out - who of the elite non-drugusers likes to lose to a secondrate competitor?
  5. I have no experience with Race Face cranks, but have had similar problems in past with Shimano XT and XTR - resolved in both cases by taking out BB spacer/s on right and/or left to allow more grip space on the shaft splines
  6. Measure the circumference of the wheel (with the tyre fitted and inflated!) by rolling the wheel along a straight line and measuring the distance. Deduct about 10mm allowing for compression while riding. The circ of my 29r wheel with 2.25 tyre fitted is 2208mm.
  7. Hi all, Found an alarm unit while cycling at Tokai last week (15/2/12). Am back in Pmbg, but have left unit in Capetown. Send me PM etc and you can collect it.
  8. What is scott warranty? At some stage yr carbon frame IS going to break. I will never own a carbon frame again. Have 26 HT and ST, and 29 HT. V difficult to compare apples with apples, but my pref is for 29. Did epic this year on Niner 29HT and 2010 on 26ST - faster this year, but stronger partner, stronger myself - one thing that stood out was unable to rest downhills - you're standing on HT, so ST might be a better choice for epic. You need to ride the 29. Are both bikes sized the same/correctly? Tyres? Fork and shock setups? Even if you have ridden both, a minor change (to stem height/length, bars, tyres, pressures, rebounds, etc etc) can affect ride. Ask me again in a years time, I may change my mind.
  9. Training wheels?
  10. Contador suspended for one year January 27 2011 at 03:40am -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press Cyclist Alberto Contador has been suspended for a year, according to reports in El Pais. Madrid - The Spanish cycling federation (RFEC) has decided to suspend Tour de France champion Alberto Contador for one year over his failed doping test in last year's race, El Pais newspaper reported on Wednesday. Federation president Juan Carlos Castano told Reuters the RFEC had informed the rider of the competition committee's decision but said the report from El Pais and similar articles by other Spanish media were “invented”. “Nothing has been told to anyone who is not the rider and in any case this is not the definitive decision,” Castano said. “The definitive one will be made public in 10 days and not before and at no time can they (the media) know the proposal because it is completely secret.” El Pais, without identifying the source of its information, earlier said the preliminary decision by the RFEC's competition committee was given to Contador at midday local time and the Spaniard had 10 days to appeal before a final decision was made. The newspaper also said the RFEC had decided to strip Contador of the 2010 Tour title. Contador's spokesman could not be reached for immediate comment. A spokesperson for cycling's world governing body (UCI) was unable to confirm the RFEC decision and said his organisation would be in touch with the federation on Thursday. The rider, who has been provisionally suspended since August, won the Tour last year for a third time but it later emerged he had tested positive for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol. Contador has denied deliberate wrongdoing, saying the failed test was due to contaminated meat. Even if he is cleared of wrongdoing by the federation, the 28-year-old will not be able to put the controversy behind him right away since the UCI and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) may challenge the decision. Speaking before the El Pais report, Contador told Spanish radio from his training base with his new Saxo Bank team in Mallorca that he was “motivated and focused on his work”. “Right now the most important thing is to remove yourself a bit from everything that is going on around you and focus on working, which is what can bear fruit in the future,” he said. The UCI, which has been rocked by several high profile doping scandals in recent years, could appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if it feels the RFEC has been too lenient with Contador. The rider may also be able to take his case to the CAS, sport's final court of appeal. One of only five men with titles in all three grand Tours, Contador has threatened to end his career if he is punished. He won the 2010 Tour de France by 39 seconds from Luxembourg's Andy Schleck who will be regarded as the hot favourite for this year's race should Contador miss the event. - Reuters
