Event Name: Liberty Waterberg Encounter When: 8 June 2018 - 10 June 2018 Where: Sondela Nature Reserve, Limpopo Category: MTB The three-stage Liberty Waterberg Encounter takes place from June 8 to 10. The mountain-bike race starts at the Sondela Nature Reserve and Spa in Bela-Bela and finishes at Elements Private Golf Reserve on the first day. The second stage takes place over a cloverleaf race format from the estate while riders make their way back to Sondela Nature Reserve on the third and final day. Participants will complete a 172km journey over some of the best mountain-bike terrain in the north of the country and cover 2774m ascent over the three days. This event, which is the final race of three in the Liberty MTB Encounter Series, affords mountain-bikers an unequalled on and off-road experience. Event Name: Bestmed Tour Of Good Hope When: 5 March 2018 - 9 March 2018 Where: Drakenstein Correctional Centre, Western Cape Category: Road The Bestmed Tour of Good Hope is South Africa's premier road stage race with its race headquarters at the Mandela Legacy Correctional Facility in Paarl, Western Cape. The race incorporates five days of racing over a total distance of 490KM, with 5218M of vertical ascent. Route: The route presents the perfect mix for a five-day road stage race with two relatively flat stages (stages 1 and 5) and two queen stages with ample climbing (stages 3 and 4). The second stage consists of a 25km Time Trial for solo riders and 63km Team Time Trial for amateur teams (stage 2).   9. Event Name: Tshwane Classic When: 5 November 2017 Where: Voortrekker Monument, Gauteng Category: Road The Tshwane Classic is a one-day cycling road race. It is an official seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and takes place on November 4 from the Voortrekker Monument. The traffic-free route passes by various historical landmarks in Tshwane, including Freedom Park and the Union Buildings while it also runs on the N4 out and back towards Hartbeespoort. Event Name: Bestmed Jock Tour When: 15 September 2017 - 17 September 2017 Where: Mbombela Stadium, Mpumulanga Category: Road The arduous Bestmed Jock Tour, presented by Rudy Project, is set to occur from September 15 - 17. It covers 304KM and a daunting 7200 metres of vertical ascent over three days. It's important to note that this event is not a challenge for the average rider. It constitutes the first event in South Africa that is mirrored on the Classic European Alpine road stage races, such as the Haute Route. There is no tougher three-day challenge on a road bike anywhere else on the African continent. Event Name: Bestmed Sondela MTB Classic When: 24 June 2017 - 25 June 2017 Where: Sondela Nature Reserve, Limpopo Category: MTB The popular Bestmed Sondela Mountain Bike Classic takes place on 24 and 25 June this year and this year sees the sixth running of the popular event. Sondela and ASG have been hard at work to ensure mountain-bikers are on the receiving end of famous Sondela hospitality coupled by a wonderfully sculpted ever evolving route. Distances on offer this year are 60km, 40km, 20km and two kids rides. The 20km, 40km and kid's rides take place on Saturday 24 June and the 60km ride takes place on its own on Sunday, 25 June, affording long distance entrants a user friendly experience without slower riders to contend with on the route. The total ascent on the 60km ride is 266m while the 40km presents 186m of climbing. The 20km ride has a total gain of 100m. It all adds up to fast riding and routes that are suited to all abilities. Sondela operations manager, "Ranger Mel" Meyer, has created an absolutely stunning mountain bike course at the well-known nature reserve, and he's made some delightful additions for the 2017 Classic. Situated only 45 minutes north of Pretoria on the N1 Highway, Sondela Nature Reserve has been a popular bushveld getaway for many years - running on a high occupancy rate - and the mountain bike fraternity is privileged that the resort makes itself available for a mass participation mountain bike event, which is now a major winter stop-over on the local cycling calendar. Event Name: Bestmed Paarl MTB Classic When: 20 May 2017 Where: Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, Western Cape Category: MTB The third edition of the Bestmed Paarl MTB Classic is scheduled for Saturday 20 May 2017 and presents an unequalled off-road experience, traversing the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve and some of the beautiful wine farms and orchards below the mountain as well as some wonderful single track at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and the Taal Monument. The event, presented by the City of Drakenstein in conjunction with ASG Events, starts and finishes at the prestigious Rhebokskloof Wine Estate. The racing starts with the 20km and 40km MTB races on the Saturday, followed by the 48km and 98km road races the following day. The road races start at 06h15 (98km) and 07h46 (48km) respectively on Sunday while the 40km MTB event starts at 08h00 and 08h15 for the 20km on Saturday. The road routes offer fast and flat circuits with good surfaces throughout. The total ascent on the 98km ride is 358 metres while the 48km ride presents 240 metres of vertical ascent. The racing starts with the 20km and 40km MTB races on the Saturday, followed by the 48km and 98km road races the following day. The road races start at 06h15 (98km) and 07h46 (48km) respectively on Sunday while the 40km MTB event starts at 08h00 and 08h15 for the 20km on Saturday. The MTB event consists of a 20km track which riders complete either once or twice. Riders would once again get to experience the excitement of riding in the shadow of the aircraft on the grounds of OR Tambo International Airport. The track is essentially made up of three sections. Event Name: Bestmed Berge En Dale MTB Classic When: 5 February 2017 Where: Hero Adventure Hobby Park, Gauteng Category: MTB The 2017 Bestmed Berge en Dale Classic, presented by Optimum Financial Services, will for the first time host a mountain bike component on Sunday, 5 February 2017. The venue for the mountain bike event is Hero Adventure Hobby Park in Krugersdorp and the race presents 40km and 15km route options. The routes have been sculpted on the Krugersdorp Ridge and include vast sections of the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. The 40km ride is undulating but only boasts 500m of ascent, so it’s a mild challenge for skilled riders while the 15km is a fun ride geared towards attracting newbies to the sport. The event kicks off from the Cradlestone Mall in the West Rand on 4 February 2017. The state-of-the-art Cradlestone Shopping Mall on the R28 provides a user-friendly experience with ample parking and lots to do once the race finishes. The event attracted 5 000 cyclists in the 2017 edition and venue and route remain unchanged.
