  1. Thanks, Chris. Good to know. Seems I am down to one then LOL!
  2. Probably a very valid point as I only know my industry/company i work for does give that to all our retailers worldwide. Still though surely they have a general standard to work to like most industries and also a little competitor research/analysis can go a long way
  3. Thanks for the heads up Though the stuff i have got seems inline with a simple search or call. Can't say I have bought loads on there but I appreciate the advice!
  4. Yes thats true and we suffer daily in my industry with tariffs, but this is about actual pricing here not comparing to the taxes or laws that are lesser and different in the US or EU for example. My wife is in electronics here too and they get hammered. The age on iphone, samsung etc battle of what they cost overseas, but taxes are taxes sadly. I am purely talking about online site to online site here, as i dont buy from out of SA now that I am here as its just so much easier locally for support and more. Plus the companies getting it write here in all industries make it less of a need for me to look overseas.
  5. ""a fool and his money are soon parted" hence I am poor!" - You are not alone Agreed here and thats the planning part well in advance and the marketing side mentioned above in theory. That said though, surely when you see something that was say R50k and then discounted to R30k, but it has never been R50k ever anywhere its now just BS? While we are parted you and i with that money, would rather not be a fool and get more for my money at an actual good price with actual good service (Softens the blow of being broke
  6. You are not wrong, but like any industry, there are certain felons of this and not all do actually do it. Thats why i was interested in starting the thread and giving my trusted sites and feedback as i received a ludicrous black friday mailer this morning that had something so over inflated and i had just got the same thing from one of my go to online retailers for 3k less that their sale price that was arguably the MSRP. At least from the response here I know i am not alone
  7. Agreed, but the big importers/distributors of big brands (like in any industry) can forward cover imports and therefore secure pricing for 3-6months at least. I am in importing of raw materials and we give an MSRP and if the retailer over inflates we call them. It's not only damaging to our brand if they do, but to be honest, makes them look ridiculous. Surely?
  8. Thanks Cyclewizz. Seems that one of those you mentioned are the reason I asked this question though. I get the marketing, but MSRP (or RRP as its called here i believe) is not really the marketing side, but more dare i say it 'fraudish' by over inflating?
  9. Thanks and yes thats what i have done now even with the LBS's and seem to be down to my trusted 2 and I make sure to avoid the corporates like Takealot and the likes as i know last year on Black Friday they burnt my trust with the day before price changes and getting called out on it.
  10. Hi Hubbers, So I am foreigner thats now living in SA and spend loads of my time buying online and have done for years even back home. What I see here is that some of your online retailers seem to really over inflate the MSRP and make it a discount to either actual MSRP or slightly under. It's annoying to me and just wondered if anyone falls for it or finds it as frustrating and insulting as I do? I have my trusted stores now like CWC, Bike Mob and 1 or 2 others depending on what my needs are or availability, but in an age where you can do online comparisons with a simple search it seems insane! Anyway, just my 2 SA cents worth and wondered if I was alone or if anyone could recommend anyone else they trust for future purchases. Thanks! John.
  11. There is a Constantia Greenbelt Mass happening next week Wednesday at 6pm. All the info is in the Facebook group and will be updated on where it will start from and so on. Not sure if they have already let everyone here know, but thought i would! Pretty rad! https://www.facebook.com/groups/999434460079312/?pnref=story As you may or may not know, the City of Cape Town invites comments from interested and affected parties on the proposal to open certain green belts in the Constantia Valley to off-road cyclists. In terms of Section 17 of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, Council must afford the public and interested parties or groups an opportunity to submit comments to the municipality for 30 days. The comment period takes place from 1 to 30 October 2015. Interested persons are welcome to attend the following public open day where the draft proposal will be available. Date: 14 October 2015 Time: 14:00 – 20:00 Venue: Alphen Centre Main Hall
  12. I'd love to, but my agent said I should first get a contract and money up front ***Dancing Monkey Emoticon Here***
  13. This thread is boring. Surely there is a forum for all the genius tax and vat consultants that seem to be on here. The buyer said his bit, the LBS has said his, clearly there is no more to say and guess what, this isn't the platform for bloody VAT consulting! I am sure they'll sort it out, its not like its a stolen bike or someone has died. Planks, rope, ladder = bridge to be built... NOW GET OVER IT Think its time we got back to bikes and how rad they are. #OutsideIsFree Aweness!
