  1. SANTA CRUZ TALLBOY 3. I had the same decision as you. I came from the Camber comp carbon and went for the tallboy 3. Couldnt be happier. Lifetime frame guarantee. lifetime guarentee on their carbon wheels aswell. Thats great.
  2. The question is .... where will you be putting your vote!!!
  3. How sandy is 'Sandy' when you guys talk about riding next to the river?? Contemplating doing either the 37 or the 56 but undecided. Managed to do ok in the MTB argus which is 40km. how intense is that extra 16km??
  4. So i went ofr my first ride today. was great. just need to adjust a few thing on the bikefit side. forgot how great that SWAT compartment was on the camber. it really is genius. saddle bag is irritating when the knocks against the seat post. will have to look for some accesories
  5. for now it will have to work as i dont have any alternatives. vid looks cool with all those gadgets but time will tell. What all do you carry with you then?? all that guy was short of was a dishwasher and sunlight soap... My thinking is 2 bombs tubelss repair kit and maybe a spare tube... and i quite like that spez chain fixer that goes in the top by the handle bars... as you can see jargon is not my thing
  6. Kid was on the couch until i got THREATENED... 'couch pic or it didnt happen'... Got discount on the bike... Kid still costs me more what do you do/use or how do you carry spares without saddle bag???
  7. unfortunately not this time but will be at the Philadelphia race on 14th
  8. its too late... old bike has been sold!!! new one has to come, pulled the plug today... lets see what arrives...
  9. Thats great that you got the bike that suited you best. well done.
  10. Thanks for the feedback. The momsen seems great but it doesn't stand out to me. But thank you
  11. What bike did you have before. How do you find the geometry of the scalpel. The scalpel has always intrigued me.
  12. Aah I see what u did there...
  13. The black. Wish I could find that Matt purple 2017 frame. But only black is available at the moment.
  14. Yes. But I do miss it during hunting season. And that V8 roar from the 76mm de graaf
  15. Jewbacca. Do i know you?? Ur land cruiser - hilux joke is crazy. Sept 2017 I bought the LC v8 DC had it 5 months. Was to much vehicle for my needs. Sold it and bought the hilux. no jokes.
  16. Thanks guys. Appreciate u making life difficult.
  17. So this is the week that i was/am going to order my santa cruz tallboy 3. I have been getting buyers remorse before i have even bought this bike for 2 reasons. 1. its a #$%#&* load of cash and not one i can afford to make a mistake on. 2. i keep second guessing if there is not a better( cheaper and gives me same performance for my needs) option. Initially it was the SC vs Pyga, Then SC vs Trek now i cant help but throw them all in to make sure i make the right choice. Even some i didn't initially think of My main needs are a bike that is good on trails and to use for races and for commuting 20km to work. I dont make podiums but not last place as well in the races. We all get a bit competitive... . Body structure is 85-90kgs. 1.82cm tall. Tallboy 3 Scott spark 920 giant anthem trek fuel ex9.8 or back to Camber ( maybe the expert this time??) Pyga Stage Max Cannondale scalpel Si 3 or 2 ( hadn't considered this bike before) I have only tested the camber(prev owned), spark(940) and haven't had time or availability to test all of them hence my thorough questioning for advise. i will try not to drag this out to much. thanks in advance for your advise.
  18. Thanks guys i appreciate all the responses. I can see that it is a mix of bike and technique. seems to be such a small difference even between XC and trail bikes when i compared them... BIKE BBheight BB drop Camber 330 42 TB3 330 40 9.8ex 344 30 Spark 910 327 43 Scalpel 334 38 i got all these figures off the respective websites. to my inexperienced eyes they all seem to be so close. was surprised by the scalpel as i never hear ppl complaining of pedal strikes on those...
  19. Admin pls move this if it is in the wrong section.
  20. Hey guys. So i recently posted in the 'buyers guide' section about a tallboy3 vs stage max and then a trek fuel ex9.8. So i am leaning towards the tallboy. My question is that when i was seeking advise ppl said that the trek seems to pedal strike alot. some said that was the bike and some said it was the rider... So on my previous camber i didnt really feel that it 'pedal stikes' alot. i mainly ride tygerberg trails. but when i did the MTB argus i had it happen quite a bit in that rooty section of single track after the first long climb at 17km mark. so was that my technique or actually that the camber has a low BB and because the TBMTB dont really have very rooty sections i never noticed it. Reason for all this back and forth is that i dont want to drop 80k on a tallboy to find it is a bike that struggles with pedal stikes like the trek. there is not much online about it struggeling. Please help out with some advise.
