  1. I have noticed that when a bike stands in the garage a 26er and a 29er run at the same speed. However when different engines climb on them the bikes go faster or slower depending on the engine. I have taken hours off race times by getting trained/coached and following a program ie engine upgrade. Yes we can all debate whether a wheel size makes you faster or slower however both bike don't go anywhere fast or slow without you on it. The best bike is the one you own, have and ride. If you love it, keep it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, nothing more satisfying than drilling someone who think you should be "slow".

  4. So if I am understanding you correctly.... you had a 10 year old bike and it broke and they replaced it with a 2017 frame and you have to pay R2k for a new seat post. And you are questioning what......?
  5. Great event and venue.....just be wary about the "horizontal climbing" ie sand there. So don't be fooled by the total climbing data on the profile. Nothing to be afraid of but can put a nice burn in the legs....
  6. We as members should take our membership money and form a class action suit and ensure that who ever is responsible ends up serving time in one of our tax paid jails. Sick to death of no consequences for illegal actions and the guilty getting away with the crimes and also the money....

    Cost of MTB racing....

No, I just used their races for an example as they seem to attract large amount of people to their events.....well in Gauteng at least.

    Cost of MTB racing....

The stage races that I used for the calculation cost was just a plain entry with tented accommodation and 3 meals living in the race village. Sorry for not putting W2W......so for W2W it would be your option 1 at R 6750. Therefore to compare apples with apples it would be 6750/201 = R33,58 per km.
  9. With the amount of MTB stage races and one day events around the country and the costs of both our equipment and race entries, I use a simple calculation to see if a race is financially "worth" doing. I take the cost and divide by the total distance to get a price per km. It makes for some interesting analysis. I know that event managers need to make money for organizing events but for me some races are out of my budget..... Note: the entry cost indicated is on a team entry (divided by 2) P.S. For those who did the Epic this year with the shortening of the route by 40km they lost R 2168 using this calculation.
  10. Also did the GR300 this weekend. This was my 15th stage race and second GR300. I found the route markings for the entire event to be below par. Was continuely wondering together with other riders if we were on the correct routes with no markers for kilometers and many roads and single track intersections not being blocked off with tape or directional arrows indicating where to go. There were no decent pre-warnings before 90 degree high speed turns which made me overshoot these turns on a number of occassions. Day 2 bike park route markings were a real challenge....awesome trails and what has been done in the park is incredible but having to switch to three colour routes that crossed and changed was a mental workout which seemed to create a lot of confusion amongst all the riders... I entered what was supposed to be a race that was over 300kms...to then be told a few weeks after entering and paying that the race was shortened to 220kms...and then day 2 was nullified because of so many riders taking the incorrect routes...leaving us with a 160km race. Sorry GR300 organisers...seriously think you need to go back to that infamous drawing board and rethink how you mark your race routes and choose dates that don't make you shorten the race to accommodate Epic training so that you get more entries... Not sure I will be back for this event.
  11. Well done to CSA for clearing him over the "needle" issue at Worlds.....
