  1. I have seen this lady on the trails & at events & she is my hero, I plan to bombing down the tech trails with my kids at 60, so I'll keep speaking up!
  2. Yes! Hands down, fantastic coffee, no arguments.
  3. #1 Tennis & squash, entirely different sports; your metaphor might work between comparing mountain biking & bmx-ing. #2 live in that area, I have a family & I also enjoying mountain biking; I have no choice but to pay the fee & as is the case I have a right to pass comment on the trails in the system & to request more variety. I don't have the luxury of always heading out to TM, jonkers, helderberg, etc. Time is valuable. Based on the fact that your entire tone in your comment is incredibly self-centered in that your only concern is the fact that your needs are catered for I'm not surprised that you have completely misunderstood what the issue here is. But maybe you'll understand it in the context of your statement, there trail network is vast, the club supports enduro, it is entirely acceptable for us to request more variety & improved grading so people can match skills to trail. No one is moaning, we are all asking for variety & feeling incredibly frustrated at how dictatorial the clubs responses usually are & while we're at it, it's pretty frustrating when the 95% such as yourself go "well it doesn't affect me so why should you moan".
  4. Yeah, this. Here, I'll link what keeps coming up, they even have a nifty pdf: http://www.imba.com/resource/trail-difficulty-rating-system Also, I've had plenty bumps, bruises & crashes on gravel roads & even once or twice at a place like meerendal, which I doubt qualifies for any ratings above blue.
  5. LOL Let's not let this thread get out of hand & off topic now!
  6. Can it be. Could you be the 1? Could you be the 1 to bring balance to the north?! To unit the dark & the light...
  7. I think you spelled "bum" wrong...
  8. Careful of absolute statements there sunshine. I ride with them very often....all over the place; they ride their bikes often, they deal with constructive criticism very well & will happily take anyone riding on their favourite trails & share their knowledge. They also happily hang back with newer rides, unfit riders to ensure they enjoy the ride. They'll also happily hang back & session sections, difficult or easy with anyone who wants to progress, challenge themselves, etc Which is also probably why they are some of the most outspoken people here...
  9. I think you, as many others, have yet again misunderstood bashing with people who are frustrated by a club that does not listen. In this thread, someone basically dropped a hint that they hushed by a lawyer; one can only assume 1 sent from the club. What other medium would you have us use? My experience is the same as many others; you speak up; the club doesn't listen & a bunch of narrow minded autocratic types tell you to shut up & be happy you're allowed to pay a massive fee to use trails in your neighbourhood. Tell me, when you go to a restaurant, get crap service & food do you keep quiet? Because no one bullied you into going there in the first place right? So, STFU & eat your food, pay your money & say thank you? Because this is what it sounds like to me. The irony being that the average South African's favorite thing to complain about is poor service delivery by our government & yet apparently it's ok for a club to be run, in my view, in very much the same way. Please explain to me how this is different?
  10. I'm sorry, what? Is this 1984? Why would there be lawyers letters involved from a club to its members? This doesn't sound very "club like"; it also sounds a bit counter to the constitution of this country which defends (& fought fought pretty hard for). I wouldn't mind reading through that letter & I'd like the club to justify that *IF* this is indeed the case...that is absolutely deplorable. It disgusts me that we're bullied into effectively paying to be apart of a club that behaves in this way.
  11. Thanks for the feedback, there is definitely something about the bike. Even my non-riding friends agree that it looks like it's worth it! But holy crap, that wait....they're only available from 30th of august! Thanks for all the comments so far, interesting reading, I also found a forum on pinkbike. The interesting thing I find is, no one has a bad thing to say about the bike, even when they've experienced minor issues such as creaking. YT seems on the ball in helping their customs out. I lie, actually EVERYONE seems to hate the YT bottle cage & bottle.
  12. Thanks, that makes sense, I spend a lot of time on the tygerberg trails, just because I live here. I'd say I have a little more skill than average joe & road my previous bike (vipa) aggressive enough that I felt I need a "little more bike", especially one I could grow into skill wise. The AL one has the lockouts which improve peddling enough to justify tygerberg trails ;-) Interesting that you say you'd prefer an XL, would you mind sharing your reasoning? Or would it be purely personal preference?
  13. I have the AL one to demo, so it has 3 modes, pedal, lock & open. I'm not the lightest guy around, but when it's in pedal mode, there's very little bob & lock locks it as much as you can expect. Quite similar in that respect to my vipa I had previously. My inseam is about 87cm, and tweaking the saddle a bit has made peddling more comfortable, but I'll need to tweak more I imagine once I get it onto a proper trail. Thanks to all for the input so far
  14. Thanks, that's perfect. Playing around with the saddle height & for the most part it's working. Will try give it a proper ride tomorrow afternoon & the weekend. I can see how this bike can be fun, it's on the heavy side, but on the bike it doesn't really seem to be much of a factor really. I suppose I'll find out on the first climb.
  15. Hi, I'm looking for YT Jeffsy owners, at the moment, I have one on loan for a test ride. I am in the market for a trail bike specifically, so this is kinda "the" bike for that style of riding it seems. However, sizing of these things is a pain in the ass. I've noticed (and maybe it's just in the western cape), that arranging demo bikes is not as easy as one would of hope, so it seems bike shops expect you to be happy with a guess based on a chart. According to YT, at 1.89m I could go L or XL. The demo bike I have is a L and it feels pretty good so far (which is 10 minutes!), but I can't really compare it to an XL at this point. What I'd like to know from the Jeffsy owners is: 1. How tall are you in metres & which size did you buy? 2. How has the bike been for you since you've had it? It would be great to hear from the AL owners here, most reviews nowadays always seem to deal with the higher end carbon frames & that's great & gives an indication, but some of us poor folk would love to have some proper reviews around the things the average joe can buy. Thanks in advance!
