  1. Hi all, I just moved to somerset west from Johannesburg. I work and live in Heldervue, right next to the lord Charles. Is there anywhere I can cycle to from work, ride a little offroad and ride back all within an hour? Thanks for any information you might have.
  2. It may well be the worst one you have ridden, but I find it really awesome... that's why each person should try the bikes for themselves. Same system as the trek fuel range. I got a good price from cyclefactory on the merida as well, but i didnt want to ship from there, i prefer the idea of having a store here if there are any come backs. The Price on the site is around R18000, but call them, they offered me a better price when i called.
  3. for R1300 more you could try to get a merida matts 1-20 1500D from westdene cycles XT derailleurs 2011 XT crank XT hubs XT triggers Fox suspension...
  4. Sounds dodgy that you move in and your expensive equipment goes missing a few days later?
  5. contact person at isikhala, importers of cube. (i am led to believe...)
  6. oops, I suppose I should include Paul's email address, apologies. paul@isikhala.co.za
  7. I like each in their own way. i don't like the giant frame look. it's ugly and reminds me of my old bomber. i forgot to add that i also contacted cube for pricing on some of their bikes, they have 2010 bikes going, if you are interested... this is the mail. Hi Linton I am still the correct person to contact. What size are you bike are you looking for? In your price range we have 1) XMS - R15 999 2) LTD Pro 100 and 125 R22 999 I have one 2010 AMS Pro 100 ER for R19 999 and one AMS Pro 100 RX R17 999. There is only one left each and size 18" (M). Dealers in the JHB area are, Complete Cyclist, Cycle Fusion, Cycle Science, The Cycle Hub. Please let me know if you require further details. Kind regards Paul Perhaps contact westdene for a price on a merida 96? as you say, similar config to the ams and scott, but you might get a better spec/price ratio than the cube (it wont look as mean as the xms though... ) But the configuration is (somewhat) specific to application, so, consider carefully.
  8. I don't know if this will still be temporally relevant, but here goes. I looked at getting this bike as well, the best price was just over R20 000, and after calculating the import duties using the formula in the online buyers guide on this forum, the R15000 quickly became just over R20 000. I took a chance and asked westdene cycles for a price on their merida onetwenty 1500-D and they gave one to me for R16380. The bikes are very similarly specced, with the merida being slightly better, i think. Different suspension configuration though. According to this theHubSa duties info the duties on a full bike are 15%, with VAT to be applied to the bike and the duties... (extract from the above link) The steps to calculate the total duties and VAT are: Calculate the Rand (ZAR) value of the invoice (including shipping). This should be done by converting the foreign amount (INV) into ZAR using the SARS exchange rate (ROE) for the date of export. This is the customs value. Calculate the import duties, using the amounts in Capricorn's list (ID%), based on customs value. These are the Duties (D). Add 10% to the customs value from step 1. Multiply this new value by 14% to get the VAT amount for the goods. Add 10% to the Duties value from step 2. Multiply this new value by 14% to get the VAT amount for the duties. Add the Duties amount from step 2 to the two VAT amounts from steps 3 and 4 to get a the total amount payable to SARS. Add the clearing fee (usualy R25 for SAPO and R100 for UPS) to the step 5 value to get the total amount you have to pay. All of the above expressed in algebra: CV = INV x ROE D = CV x ID% VATGoods = (CV x 1.1) x 0.14 VATDuties = (D x 1.1) x 0.14 TotalSARS = D + VATGoods + VATDuties Grand Total = Clearance Fee + TotalSARS
  9. I have been looking around at different bikes to get at the end of the month, there have been a few reasonable deals on 2010 stock, but I have decided to try and keep it 2011 so as to get the Dyna-sys stuff from shimano. I've narrowed the soft tail choices down to the merida onetwenty 800d, giant trance x3 and the cube xms. One bike will have better componentry in one area, over another... My choice (i think) will pivot on the suspension of each bike. merida - Rock Shox Recon Silver Soloair 120/X-Fusion O2RL Remote cube - Manitou Minute LTD 100mm, Air Assist, Remote-Lockout/Suntour Epicon 165mm length, Lockout giant - Fox 32 F125RL (Giant LTD Edition)/Fox Float R my knee jerk is that the giant system is better, however each bike shop has daintily danced around saying that if you don't service the fox stuff pretty often, you will have issues. The merida looks to be the best bang for buck, but i have never heard of x-fusion O2RL ever, and i have no clue how good or bad it will be. the cube is most expensive, looks the best (probably get bored with the 'bling' after a while though) but i am completely prejudice against suntour, anyone got any experience with the suntour epicon shock? The giant looks the least appealing of all the bikes. Am i hinging my decision on the wrong aspect here? is there a specific weakness that should make me cross one of the bikes off my list? Or are they all much of a muchness, and i won't go far wrong choosing any of the 3?
  10. Congratulations on the engagement!
  11. I am also interested in finding the 1000d for that price.
  12. I'm in the market for a new bike, I have not settled on hard tail or soft yet. I came across this bike from solomons, the Fuji reveal 2.0 (http://solomons.co.za/node/1265) is there anything from another store that can compete with this bike in price and spec? This bike looks like a really good deal.
  13. OK, I get that, Cajees is certainly not your start to finish bike purchasing mecca. but I wasn't asking about the store, I was asking about the tool, let us pretend that cycle lab uses it (i dunno if they do or not, this is pretend land) also, yes, i get pain in my lower back and knees, i've sold my bike now and i am going to replace it soon...
