  1. Been adding to my collection for a week or so and trying loads of stuff from Maxxis. Fast xc sort of rides the Ardent Race 2.35 on the front and ikon 2.35 rear is GREAT. Then I swap out the rear for more hectic terrain. I'm riding a trail bike not really xc so like the bigger volume tyres for xc stuff too.
  2. Awesome going to order one and give it a try, thanks
  3. Cheers for the reply. Going to take a look at the forekaster or maybe the Ardent 2.4. Will be using the ardent race 2.35 and ikon 2.35 for xc races and stuff just need a front for the winter to go with the ikon on the rear for casual long distance rides.
  4. Awesome thanks for the reply. Going to have a look at either the Forekaster for the front or Ardent 2.4 perhaps.
  5. Has anyone here used the FOREKASTER? I'm looking at the 2.35 (27.5) one thats comes in at 690? Been having a blast changing tyres around and testing all of them. Did a 30km (700m elevation) XC ride this morning and ran the DHF 2.3 and the Ikon 2.35 rear. Ikon aired down to 22psi (weight with kit is 81kg) and it's perfect even after the small amount of rain we had. Thing is I want to run the 2.35 Ardent Race up front for XC which i'm loving in dry conditions but today it would have been a bit hectic up front in the wet. The DHF comes in at 870 and although i'm not counting each gram i'm not sure i'd want to take it on a ride say twice as long as today. Does need more power to run at the same speed as my last Ibex but wanting to try Maxxis for a change. Forekaster looks like it would be awesome up front in 2.35 just want to know how it is compared to the Ardent Race on one side and the DHF on the other. DHF being my fav so far. Also hard to find somewhere that sells that Forekaster even overseas....
  6. Did i make a mistake ordering IXS Flow knee pads? First set of pads i've ever needed/ordered.. Never seen them in person. Wont use them for XC stuff at all but if I do enduro events or ride more hectic trails with jumps and drops. Perhaps maybe should have gone for something with a bit more protection? Anyone seen/used them? Opinion on not going for a hardshell? Good reviews online but perhaps from people wanting a bit of protection on more mellow trails..,
  7. Thanks for the reply, both would probably do great either way but as advice suggests wider the better and even if I was concerned about weight there is a small difference
  8. Thanks, I have the same Ikon in the rear, ran it round 22 psi the other day with the DHF and it felt great, today trying it at 25 ( I'm 80kg full kit) it slipped out on everything. Going to go down to 22 psi (1.5bar) and see should be much better! Was really impressed at lower pressure!
  9. Cheers will go back down and experiment
  10. Awesome stuff. Got a second front wheel and now have a DHF 2.3 for rough days and just tried out the Ardent Race 2.35 on the front for XC. You obv can't treat the Ardent Race like the DHF in corners and downhill and I run it round 22psi being good think higher will caus loss of traction on the uphills. Perfect fast round corners on flats and ups otherwise and much faster rolling. Question tho, anyone have an Ikon 2.35 rear? Ran mine the other day at 22 psi worked great and today tried 24/25psi and slipped all over the place with not such great results round corners. Riding xc sort of trails hard pack stuff round southern suburbs. Is it that sensitive to pressure?
  11. Awesome thanks will most def head in that direction then! Read loads of great reviews.
  12. Yea i'm dying to try the 2.6 DHF! Got the bike (giant trance) start of last year so came with the 19mm stock giant rims. Must say they have held up pretty well but heavy as and 19mm is ridiculous. Cheers for the input 29mm flows hopefully soon!
  13. Awesome I will do so, thanks for the advice! I'm around 81kg full riding gear so just thought arch mk3 for weight wise would be ok but extra internal width makes more sense.
  14. maybe i will try the Ardent front for XC stuff then in a 2.4 none 3c compound. Only 70 grams heavier not sure how to rolls and corners compared to the ardent race apparently more sketchy? Just from the forum reading not sure if thats true at all...
  15. Checked out lots of forums with guys running the ardent race front and rear too, seems good depending on what you use it for. Cheers for the reply, going to order the Ardent race 2.35 and use it with the 2.35 Ikon in the rear for XC 60/70km races. Not that I race just fitness and fun riding those with less rolling resistance. Sorted thanks guys, Ardent Race F Ikon 2.35 R - XC Aggressor F, Ikon/ardent Race - Long Cross xc days out DHF F Aggressor R - Fun DH type missions (probably keep these on most of the time unless i'm doing really long rides or XC stuff.)
  16. Saving up for some stans arch mk3 wheels, running 19mm internal atm not sure 2.4 would be great.
  17. Will add those to my list, thanks for the reply! Canis also used to weep a bit not too bad tho.
  18. Thanks yea think I want to try find a Maxxis tyre and if not maybe Onza seeing as though I have them. If anyone has tried those, Ardent/Ardent Race, Forekaster as mentioned above. Could put the larger Ikon upfront and have a 2.2 on the rear maybe.
  19. Awesome thanks, I ordered from ChainReaction and didn't see those on there so must have missed them. Will take a look at them, cheers
  20. Hey everyone! Riding a 2016 Giant trance (Stock 19mm internal rims) will be doing enduro events, xc (for fun) and ride Tokai trails. What would be my best choice for XC events (60+ km rides) I was using the Onza Ibex 2.25 front and Canis rear which worked well but felt like a change for the tougher Tokai ST. Just moved to DHF 2.3 3C EXO Front and Ikon 2.35 Rear. DHF is the best tyre I have ever used considering I cant go 2.4 due to rims atm. It grips anything and has literally changed my riding. I like the higher volume Ikon in the rear compared to the canis and seems like a tougher tyre. I have ordered the Maxxis Aggressor for the rear so I can use the DHF/Agg for enduro and Tokai but it's way too heavy for long XC stuff. What should I use for XC events? If I have the Ikon 2.35 rear which Maxxis tyre could I stick up front? Aggressor just seems pretty heavy but have not ridden it yet... I can slide out that Canis pretty easily so not sure for the front and not sure the Ibex instead of the DHF would make that much difference. Any other maxxis tyres I could get for the front end? Thanks in advance!
  21. I have an Ibex 2.25 and a canis 2.25 on the rear (giant trance) been riding southern suburbs local trails, fedhealth, rectron, a weekly 50/60km road ride and had no issues with it on the rear after 1000km or so. Running it tubeless and road riding has obv cut the life span a bit but still running strong with good grip round corners and technical uphills.
  22. Left around 9:45 stay southern suburbs side so did not want to wait so long for the draw either.
  23. Agreed, second event ever after my first Fedhealth 65km and really worth it. First time riding that single track had a blast! Will be back next year!
