  4. moved from KZN to CT in December. Ive done a few of the CT MTB races and found them all to be roadie races on MTB, I was hoping Lourensford was going to change my perception but nope it was another roadie race with very little single track. To be honest you could quite easily ride that course on a cylocross bike. Which has just given me an idea for next year although if the lucky epic lotto chooses my name I might not have to. But seriously guys which races are in CT are proper MTB races which could be compared to the like of the Karkloof classic, Tour de Kraanz, Illovo Eston etc etc where at least 60% of the race is single track, rock gardens, bridges etc?
  5. Ill be riding this beauty with nobblies, baggies and hairy legs
  6. thanks for all your advice. He's read the thread and found it extremely helpful. He's decided to go for the 2010 Trek EX8 if they have it in his size. Apparently there isn't a single 19" in the country in which case I think the dealer is going to work out a special deal on the EX9 that they have in stock.
  7. thanks for all the advice guys, please keep it rolling.
  8. Hi guys, my brother in law is looking to get a decent dual suspension mtb. He's looking to spend between R20k - R30k. He's not a serious mtber (yet) but as a professional Red Bull / KTM freestyle MX athlete he knows his way around a set of handle bars and will punish it from day 1. The kind of riding hell do is XC and a few races per year. He wants new! Had a look at a Giant anthem X2 and Trek Fuel EX8. What would you consider to be the absolute best choice in the price category??
  9. just found out this morning that PROBIKE will replace the frame. What a sweet ending!!
  10. Spoke to my LBS this morning and mailed them pics etc. They are pretty positive it will be replaced under warranty and will carry out major service when switching over components charging labour to warranty claim. So I get a brand new frame and only have to pay for new bits like brake pads, chain etc. Winner! Although I am concerned about the endurance of plastic MTB's.
  11. Mongoos dude, I may take you up on your offer. Like a true idiot, the thought of a warrenty claim never crossed my mind. I'll give it a bash today. I'll be in the mother city the weekend of 29 Jan, all my fam live there. We can draw up an agreement and I'll return it when my frame is either repaired or replaced. Eish now I know there is a crack I'm hyper paranoid when hitting even the smallest jumps.
  12. Hi guys, Im fairly new to the world of MTB. I bought a raleigh rm8 3 months ago and have literally ridden the wheels off it. While I was cleaning it this afternoon I noticed quite a nasty crack at the seat post tube that almost runs down to the top tube. Does anybody know if this can be fixed or put on the rubbish pile. If it can be fixed is there somewhere in KZN? And Lastly, does anybody have a large second hand frame that I could use while my frame is getting fixed?
