Endomondo - 2017 bikehub Commuters Challenge. The challenge is a personal one to track and challenge yourself to ride those extra km's especially on days when you really don't feel like it. When planning our trip to Knysna about 2 weeks after the devastating fires of June 2017, we struggled to find information about the trails after the fires. Even in the town, we found differing opinions on the conditions of the trails. We have now ridden some of the trails and, amazingly, most of the trails actually escaped damage. Here is what we found: Harkerville: The yellow, blue and green routes are rideable. The red route is closed but you can still get a decent ride in by combining the blue and green route. On the green route you do go through areas that are completely burnt out (but rideable) and even in the forests on the blue route we came across the odd burnt out tree. Areas near the coast are where the damage is. Homtini: After driving through complete burnt out moonscapes, the Homtini trail is is unscathed and sheer pleasure to ride. Well worth the drive out. Petrus Se Brand: Not ridden yet but apparently unscathed. Garden Route Trail Park: Still on the agenda but apparently unscathed. Not ridden, hopefully others can add for Kom Se Pad and Concordia Road (apparently rideable but lots of damage along the way)

With 70.3 DBN being done and dusted, who's heading down for the tenth edition of 70.3 East London on Jan 2017?

I am not sure if there is already a thread for this event, if so, I apologise. This will be my first Ironman 70.3 as well as my first Triathlon, Training has been going well and feeling ready. I have a few questions re the event and triathlons in general, any help will be greatly appreciated: 1. Are trisuits necessary or is it possible/advised to just run in your cycle shorts and shirt? 2. If Wetsuits, on the day, aren't compulsory, is it still advisable to wear one? will it help with speed or tamper with it? I have now forgotten my other questions! will post later when i remember! Hi everyone and thanks for making this site so helpful. I'm looking to spend around 10-12k on a hardtail. I have my eye on a new GT Zaskar Sport 2017. Can anyone share their thoughts on this model or its components? It does seem like a great value for money bike (considering it's new). What do you think? I'm a novice who will mainly use it on the tracks around table mountain and for commuting occasionally. I'm not planning on racing or doing anything majorly technical. But I do want something that offers a solid base to build on or to resell in time. Some people have warned me to stay away from GT and that they have a poor resale value. And I've had others say the exact same thing about Silverback (and the opposite about GT). It's hard to find an objective opinion. Most people seem to have higher budgets and are quick to shoot down brands or ranges pitched at a lower price point. I guess I just want to feel confident I'm not being a total idiot in going this direction. But by all means, tell me if+why I am.. The 2nd hand option really does seem more reasonable but I wouldn't know where to start and how to evaluate a bike competently. For example, there is a Silverback Sola 2 (i think 2014) going for 8.9k. Is it worth the risk or would you rather go for a new bike? Thanks for your help, Mintman
