  2. First time poster! Hello to everyone! My brother in-law (Bryan Cusack) and tandem partner (Brennan Anderson) will be attempting to ride from Sucunda at 10am to join up at the starting line-up of the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic, that is an epic 600km ride in 24 hours! I spoke to them this morning and they are in good spirits. Bryan informed me that the weather is going to be wet for about 200km with a head wind most of the way. He just said "it is what it is". Lets try and help these guys raise some funds, it's for a good cause! For more information see the article links below: Article - http://thecows.co.za/2018/09/18/champion-tandem-team-aims-to-ride-long-at-tsogo-sun-amashova-durban-classic-for-the-cows/ Donation Link - https://www.givengain.com/ap/twentyfourhourtandemcows I will be phoning the team every 3-4 hours to get updates on how things are going which I will post to this topic. If there is anything specific you would like me to post then please let me know. I will give the following updates: Distance Covered / Elevation / General well being / etc Lets support and help these guys! If you would like to pass on a message to the guys then post it and I will move it on to them. I recon they are going to need it as some stage! Lets support!
  3. Howzit, Perhaps this question can benefit from research done by those riding to PMB for the Amashova? I'm planning a solo tour, on tar road, from JHB to Durban. The specific route I want to follow involves JHB West, Randfontein, Vaal Dam, Reitz, Bethlehem, Clarens, Harrismith, Winterton, Mooi River, PMB and Durbs. Does anyone have any elevation profiles available for this route, that they could share? Perhaps those organisers of rides from Heidelberg have something available that they could share? Much appreciated!
  4. In our cycling community we constantly have people doing extreme things and pushing the envelope to become pioneers in their own right. From the first guys doing two laps around Johannesburg in the 947 , to the first guys Everesting on a bike. Well, we now have a pioneer here in our own little cycberville community too, Tombeej as he is known to us became the first person (as far as research has shown) to do the Amashova Classic "Twice" so to speak. He departed Suncoast Casino(The End) in the early hours of the morning 02H00 and cycled solo all the way up the route to Pietermaritzburg (The Start) in the pitch darkness of the night with only the stars and moonlight for company. Once there he climbed into his A Batch Seeding Slot and then rode the Race the way the "normal" people did. Now as we all know , if its not on Strava it never happened, so here are some screenshot of the proof So pinging Mr. Tombeej, please come and give us a detailed event report.....
  5. Saddle up and be part of the inaugural Tsogo Sun Wattbike Challenge. The partnership between Tsogo Sun and Wattbike is a complete fit, with Wattbike being the official training bike to the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic, SA’s oldest and third largest cycling race. 7. Hi I am hoping to take part in the 2016 Amashova and will need to hire an appropriate bike as I am travelling from overseas. Does anyone know who I could speak to in Durban about this? Thanks Mark
  8. On Thursday morning, early, we start our tour to Durban which includes riding the Amashova (day 4). Our club has done many Durban tours in the past, but we haven't done one for the last few years. This thread will be a blog about our journey from Germiston to Durban, with photos and comments from as many of the tour group as possible - some of them are hubbers (but they like to keep a low profile) - pending internet connection at our overnight spots (and my willingness to sift through photos and type up a story). One of the reasons for the tour is to raise funds for the NSPCA (our chosen charity for the 947 Cycle Challenge this year). We have setup a Back-a-buddy campaign as well as an SMS number (947-67 to 38018, @ R25/sms) for any donations. Like most others, raising funds is hard as everyone has their own preferences of where to donate (if at all). If you have already donated, we say "thanks". If not - chose from one of the two methods above and help us help the animals. The route Comprising a group of 27 (24 riders and 3 providing permanent backup), we have a mix of abilities ranging from Vets to beginners, old and young, experience and inexperienced. Very few members have cycled more than 200Km in one go, so day 1 will be a big challenge (224km) for many members. Personally, the longest ride I've done is 191Km so nailing the DC will be something I've been looking forward to ever since we started planning this tour. So far, the forecast for Thursday is looking promising... a tail wind (forecast is at Standerton - at the dam), which is 170Km into our ride. Let's see what the post-ride feedback it like. The biggest concern, I would think is this heatwave we're currently experiencing, so I'm guessing a lot of fluids will be consumed by all. Day 2 appears to be a good recovery ride, if you can call 157Km a recovery, while day 3 will be a favourite among most as we make our way through the KZN midlands before we reach PMB on Saturay afternoon. Day 4 is on the Amashova, starting in TL (for 3 of our tandems) and BB (buddy batch) for the rest. We'll be riding in club kit on Sunday, so look out for the "minions" on the road on Sunday... Three sleeps and counting...

  13. Good day, So I have entered the 2015 Amashova cycle challenge. Unfortunately I cannot go alone due to financial difficulties. So, what I need is a travel partner. I do not pay for patrol or toll gates, so that is covered. I basically need some one that will help with "padkos" and accommodation. I will go down on the Saturday and come back on the Monday. I can tow a bike tailor if needed, but also have a bike rack that can take 3 bikes. The arrangements for the accommodation will be the responsibility of whoever decides to be riding shotgun. Please let me know if your are interested in tagging along. thanks
