  5. We're a group of approximately 30 young adults between the ages 21 - 35 highly excited to cycle the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge in November this year. We are all not professional cyclists but wanting to cycle for a cause, particularly Joint Aid Management http://www.jamsa.co.za - They are also listed on the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge Ride For A Purpose. I write to you to ask whether you would be able to assist us with finding a place for bicycle and equipment rentals leading up to the event. We are also keen to train with any team and join some of the tours you or they may be affiliated with. We would be grateful if you can assist us whichever way you can, even if it is referring us to someone who can add more value to the cause, where you may not be able to. Your ideas, advice and expertise are more than welcome. I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Khobe 081 728 4002

  8. I have two "youngesters" who want to attempt the Sun City Ultra Sprint to see if they like triathlon. Neither of them have bicycles and they do not want to commit to buying one until they are sure that they like the sport. Does anyone know where I can rent bicycles from for them to train on as well as for race day? I really want them to try out this amazing sport.
  9. Hi All, Did my intro at the introduction section I'm a complete beginner to cycling and am looking to get a MTB to start off with. I am 1.78m tall and am doing this to get into shape and have some fun on the off road trails. Might possibly just use it also as a road bicycle just to get the fitness in during the week. Budget at the moment is R3000 Any advice on the bike to look at?
  10. La Palma is the steepest island of the World; its highest peak is 2426 m high: Roque de los Muchachos. Its eastern ascent starts at oceanlevel I climbed it twice: once its eastern, once its western side. I recorded GoPro video on its descents: it shows stunning scenery, views to the volcano, caldera, onto the clouds above the ocean, etc... The video shows a part of why La Palma is called: la isla bonita = beautiful island. Thanks for watching and hope You like it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6APrQ3uzFI Gabor http://www.facebook.com/cycling.high

  13. I have a Trek 1200 Road bicycle, of which year I am unfamiliar with. It has no pedals, the chains are a bit rusted, tires don't look that good and tubes both have a flat. Otherwise the bike is working well. I want to trade it for a decent or acceptable mountain bike. Can I do this? Should I first take photos of it for you guys to inspect?

  18. Hi hubbers so i am busy on my second build and been chatting with guys from abroad and they have been saying that in some states, there are actual fields with bicycles, and if you looking for a part and its not on a shelf, go into the "field" and find it. so that made me wonder, does Cape town, hell South africa, actually have something like this. Yes we have cycleworks and bike lane in cape town, etc, but a SCRAPYARD????? Anyone know of places like these, we can start to map it out and load it on the thread.
  19. Hi Guys I hope you guys aren't sick of answering newbie posts by now, I would really appreciate some advice on a few topics. I have recently had a knee operation so all I can do(at a high level of effort) really is cycle at the moment. If the bug bites I'll look at getting a higher quality bike but for the mean time I am looking for an entry level bike((29er) that is new. I know a second hand higher quality bike(26er) is often suggested but as I said if the bug bites I'll upgrade. I'm going to be mainly riding on the wine farms around the Cape so nothing too hectic for now. I am looking at the following bikes: "Titan Ryde 29er 2016" or "Titan Cruz 29er 2015" or "Merida Big 9 20D" My price range is between R4000 to R6000. a few questions: 1) Any other suggestions of new bikes in that price range? 2) I am just over 100kg so would these bikes be alright? 3) Best/Most resonable bike shops in the Cape? 4) I'm 1.79m, what size frame would i need? Thanks guys really appreciate the help
  20. Why would you want to buy a Specialized Roubaix in South Africa if we don't have rough road routes like in the Paris Roubaix? Surely this bicycle has other properties besides being made for cobblestones? Has anyone got such a bike? How comfortable is it over long distance? How does it climb?
  21. Hello ! Few weeks ago I had a 17 days long bicycle tour in the Alps, Europe. In the middle of the tour I participated on an extrem level cycling event: Super Randonné Prealpina (618 kms + 12674 m hieghtdifference) in Italy. It's a cyclotouring event in northern Italy, by the lakes: Lago Maggiore, Lago Lugano, Lago d'Orta but contains 14 climbs: Banchette , Bochetto diSessera / Bielmonte , Alpe Noveis , Passo San Bernardo , Passo di Colma , Mottarone (1455 m), Piancavallo (1254 m), Pian dei Sali , Alpe di Neggia (1395 m) , Cademario , Lanzo d'Intelvi , Alpe Tedesco , Sette Termini , Passo Cuvignone (1036 m) To get the randonnee level you have to finish in 55 hours, but for the tourist version You have 7 days. After cycling 5 days in Switzerland I had 2 rest days and using the same touring bike I started the challenge; my aim was the randonné version after last year's successful ride by the Valtellina EXtreme Brevet (345 km + 8998 m --> 3 rounds) I edited a video about this bicycletour; have pleasure with it ! and besides I can truely suggest to participate or to face with this challenge: great ride and the landscape is wonderful ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VafwjRrMqU Gabor
  22. I made this wooden shelf myself from Pine, based on pics that I found on the internet.
  23. Spent December and January building our own custom bicycle sound system - The Jam Daddy. This project was a labour of love, but the finished project is awesome. The sound quality is unrivaled and it handles very well! It's a monster sound system mounted on 20" wheels, and loud enough to rock the block. We're updating our track list, so think of a song that needs to be played *really* loud, and let the Jam Daddy know!
  24. Used 2013 Orbea complete carbon frame road bike, excellent condition, very low miles below 180. frame size 55cm, runs perfect, no scratch or dirt, well cared for. Sram red complete, 10speed, pro tires 700cx23, No pedals, Italian fibre seat. It's a must sell bike for an affordable price. Please contact for pics and specs.
  25. I'm looking to buy a new bike in the coming weeks. So far I've looked at stuff like the Rocky Mountain Element 930 and Merida Big Ninety Nine 1000. Both of these are full suss 29ers at about 25000. I ride mostly in Tokai and I want to have as much comfort and confidence going downhill as possible without compromising uphill riding. My current bike is a Silverback Alpine 26 hardtail with a very entry level SR Suntour fork so it is definitely due for an upgrade. Any thoughts on the bikes I've named? Any suggestions of other bikes?
