  2. Hi guy which insurance company is the best to insure my MTB?
  3. Any hubbers have any experience with per day bike insurance?
  4. Hello! I have just upgraded from my hard tail to a new full sus. As the new bike is considerably more expensive I am looking to get it insured with Bicycle specific insurance. Has anyone had any experience with Naked insurance?

  6. Hi there all. Would like some assistance with regards to bicycle insurance companies, as I am considering moving from my current insurer. Which bicycle insurer do you make use of? Why do you make use of this specific insurer? How have they handled any claims that you have submitted before? Do you find that your monthly installment is reasonable considering your cover?
  7. Heyo, I was in a minor accident on the weekend, we were in a paceline, a car reversed out of a driveway and the bloke taking his turn at the front dropped anchor and there was a little collision. I am unscathed but my rear dropout seems to have been damaged causing my wheel to not sit in the frame 100%, causing the tyre to rub against the frame. Insurance has agreed to replace the frame but I need to get a damage report. I'm in Somerset West, does anyone have any recommendations? TL;DR I need a damage assessment on my frame for Insurance, any suggestions? Shot
  8. A good afternoon to all the Hubbers! I currently do not have insurance on my baie sukkel. I have seen a few crashes (actually, the result of said crashes), and it's making me nervous. So, what is the most cost effective way to cover all my cycling equipment? I know that CSA sanctioned events cover you up until a certain amount, but not certain if that is exclusively for medical expenses. I'm looking for COMPLETE cover that covers every possible scenario. Thanks!
  9. Hi, I am really concerned that we as cyclists are not getting the service we deserve from CSA. I really believe that we should get regular feedback on the Finances, Balace sheet showing income and expenditure, and a business plan showing the target for the upcoming year. In addition to that, how does CSA manage the provincial affiliation fees? I stay in North West, and cannot even find out who is responsible for cycling in the province, let alone what they are doing, but is costs me R75.00! So who is getting the money, and where is it going? I tried in vain to get answers from the office in Cape Town. Does anyone have a different view?
  10. Hi everyone So during the week one day when I got home from work, the first thing my kids tell me is that our domestic accidentally knocked over my bike. I didn't think much of it and didn't bother checking if the bike is ok (yes I know, I should be lynched for not checking my baby immediately!). Took it out this morning for a wash and I see this: Obviously it needs to be repaired. What I want to know from the guys that know carbon well, is this now a weak spot in my frame? If I leave it like that and just keep on riding the bike is there a chance of the frame cracking/breaking at some stage? And I don't suppose this is enough to warrant an insurance claim?
  11. Hi everyone, I see there are a lot of topics for bicycle insurance, but most of them starts with: "What do you guys think of this insurance company...." or "Have you had any problems with that company...' and so on. Some topics has heaps of replies and half of the replies are for joking around (with which I have no problem, its just more difficult to find an answer) My question is, which insurance company offers the best bicycle insurance and from who should you stay away from. I have a new bike I would like to insure and would like to do it by not paying an over priced premium and still have proper cover. Thanks Adriaan
  12. How do you guys insure your retro rides? I have a 1995 Kona Explosif that I love dearly however it isn't insured. Back in its day it was considered a top end bike with high end components and a XT/XTR drivetrain. I want to ensure it but don't know how to value it. If it was a newish bike I would insure it for the value it would cost to buy a new bike that is similar but since the modern equivalent to this bike would probably be over R50k I don't think it makes sense to insure it this way. Can one insure a bike for its secondhand value, which in the case of my bike isn't much, but If I ever lost my Kona I would like to know that I would be able to replace her, even if it meant watching gumtree for a few months?
  13. My wife and I are going cycling in France for 2 weeks or so in June. If either of our bikes show up in pieces or not at all I would like to be covered. Normal travel insurance has limits like R2000 per item lost which obviously won't do. Anyone know where I could purchase appropriate insurance or have any other suggestions?
  14. Hi Guys, any suggestions for companies I can insure my bicycle with? looking to compare a few quotes that wont cost me more than the bike did.. Thanks
  15. I just got a new 2016 Giant trance 2, bought it for R29800. I asked Santam how much it would be insure it and they got back to me for R189 per month? Is this about par? Or would you suggest I shop around and get another quote and pit insurers against each other and try reduce it? Who else should I try?
  16. I've been meaning to give some praise and thanks to Cycling South Africa for a while and have finally got round to doing it. As a CA and a PPA ExCo member I always though CSA were a greedy and wasting money on travel and entertainment so never renewed my membership when it lapsed a few years ago. I elected to ride the 99er this year, which was a CSA sanctioned event, and I was presented with a choice of a day licence at R35 or an annual membership of CSA at R120 I think. I had seen a few tweets and articles on what CSA was doing for members and I thought I would support them. I chose the membership. And it was without a doubt the best financial decision I have made recently. I had a really nasty crash and shattered my shoulder. Badly. CSA has an automatic insurance policy for medical expenses up to R20,000 if you are injured, get this, riding your bicycle. Not even racing or training. Just riding. Can you believe it? Well, I phoned CSA, they put me in touch with Hollard. I filled in a form and got my orthopaedic surgeon to fill in a form. I sent the surgeon's quote with the 2 forms to Hollard. 3 days later R20,000 was deposited into my bank account to cover me for medical expenses not paid by my medical aid. I've said if you ride your bike without a rear light you are an idiot. Or if you believe guys win a Grand Tour without doping you are an idiot. Reality is, if you ride a bike and don't belong to CSA then you really ARE and idiot. R120 for a year with real benefits. Compared to PPA membership and what you get there it's a no brainer.
  17. Outsurance settled after having read the post and the lady telling them they were unethical and morally wrong. case closed.
  18. Hi all, I know this is a frequent topic on the hub, but I need some advice. Has anyone dealt with Compedium Insurance Brokers before? They provide stand alone bicycle insurance. Which is something most insurance companies don't do. Is stand alone insurance a good thing, or would it be better to add the bicycle to your normal household insurance, provided that you are covered for damage/theft on the road or at races etc? Thanks.
  19. After Easter Weekend one of my clients, who is a fellow hubber, informed me his Cannondale Lefty frame has cracked. The bike was dropped at Chris Willemse Cycles on Wednesday where we received the damage report from Marnitz and Rickus that afternoon. Thursday morning the claim was processed by CycleSure, Anike Deysel, and approved just after lunch time. After considering the new frame replacement payout and build over, client decided to rather pay in and bought a brand new 2015 Momsem VIPA XT. Bike was collected on Friday afternoon and he was in time for his Fine Breede MTB race on Saturday. Great service from CycleSure, Anike Deysel! It was once again a pleasure to work with her, very professional. Thanks to Rickus at CWC for his excellent service and assisting the client.
  20. I recently insured my MTB through a broker david@mccrystal.co.za - put me on PedalProtect. Automatically covered when bike is away from home, R3m liability insurance, R50k Personal Accident..R110p/m. Bike value R15k. It was quick and easy. Underwritten by ABSA. Thoughts?

  22. Someone posted these questions a couple of days ago. Here is an answer from manangement: Frame crack or break ascribed to manufacturer - no cover. So only a warranty claim with manufacturer? The policy covers accidental damages and any damage due to a manufacturers fault will not be covered and must be claimed against the manufacturers warranty. Unattended bike - cover only if locked to immovable object, vehicle or trailer with approved locks and cable or locked inside a vehicle or trailer and entry or removal is violent and forcible. So no cover if bike is not locked to immovable object at home, even if home was violently and forcibly entered? The bicycle do not have to be locked to an immoveable object at home, theft from your residence must be accompanied by forcible entry or threat of violence against you, Also, what if you're going away for a weekend, and you leave your bike on the trailer correctly locked but not technically in transit? Do you need to take your bike off the trailer and lock it to an immovable object at the guest house, hotel, camp site you're staying at? The bicycle will be covered against theft if it was securely locked to your trailer. What if the removal of a bike compliantly locked wasn't violent but only forceful? The theft will be covered whether taken violently or forcefully Bike in transit - cover only if attached to vehicle or trailer with approved locks and cable or locked inside a vehicle or trailer and further that the bike carrier is securely bolted or locked by an approved lock, and that the theft, loss, removal or damage was violent and forcible.Theft or damage whilst in transit is covered What about bikes in transit in boxes on commercial airlines? The bicycle will be covered against theft or damage from the moment you hand the bicycle in the airline’s care until such time that you take into your care again What about bikes in transit to stage race events in trucks owned and operated by third parties, who don't lock the trailer and/or the bike is stolen or damaged during loading, offloading or storage? The third party has to take proper care against theft while in their possession, if not they can be held responsible. Damage during on or offloading will be covered . Also, am I not covered if the bike was not correctly locked to the carrier? That is correct
