  2. Afriski Ski and Mountain Resort in Lesotho hosted the second round of the 2014 Southern African Mountain Bike Cup Series, on 19 and 20 April. South African, and some international riders, competed for UCI category points in the cross-country and downhill disciplines, which were UCI category 1 for the Elite Men and Elite Women, and UCI Category 2 for the Elite Men respectively.   3. Trek SA XC racer James Reid opened his 2014 season with a victory in the U23 men’s African Continental Championships on Saturday afternoon in Durbanville, Western Cape. It must be dubbed as one of the most electrifying races when Team Spur’s James Reid fought back a 45-second deficit behind Scott LCB’s Philip Buys to claw his way back and take the Elite Men’s victory at the STIHL 2016 South African National Mountain Bike Championships at Cascades MTB Park in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 16 July.   16. South African Team RECM rider, James Reid, extended his lead over his nearest rival to 1 minute 48 seconds on day 2 of the newly UCI classified Trans Hajar Mountain Bike race in Oman. The stage ended with a tense sprint finish between Reid and his fellow countryman Max Knox. With the fifth and final round of the STIHL 2016 SA XCO Cup Series rapidly approaching, the Series Title is wide open as the riders prepare for the season finale in the Free State at Happy Valley Conservancy in Bloemfontein on Saturday 18 June. What is important to note, is that all five rounds this year will be considered in the overall National points system, determining the overall win, as well as carrying a UCI Category 2 rating.
