  1. Hi Guys I'm very new to the world of MTB'ing, so hope I can draw from some expert knowledge here before having to head out to a workshop. I have a Titan 650b (just over a month old) and it's been riding like a dream. However from yesterday afternoon, whenever I'm pedaling I get a single *click* sound on my right pedal when it's at the top of the rotation (12 o'clock position) and my left pedal makes like a ratchet sound starting from the 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock position. So I end up with this *click* right and then ratchet Left on every pedal cycle. Any ideas what could be causing this? I can't see anything visible and wasn't about to take the entire bike apart before seeking some advice? I looked on the web, but these answers seem very varied. It happens in all my gears and regardless of seating or standing position. When I'm "freeing" downhill, there is no sound so guessing crank maybe? Thanks all, I'd really appreciate you input. Cheers!
  2. What shoes are good options and where to buy for flat pedals? Options other than Five Ten's as they are a bit pricy.
  3. Hey guys, My bike started doing this weird thing lately: when I'm cycling normally, i.e. not exerting massive amounts of force onto the pedals like you would pushing a small gear up a hill, then my gears and shifters work fine. 10 speed deore casette with deore chain , deore derailleur and 1 x narrow wide chainring up front. But when i pedal hard, like up the hill in a small gear, i.e pushing down hard on the pedals, something happens. it feels as if the chain slips for a second, or as if the chain jumps off the casette or something. i'm usually not looking at my drivetrain when this happens. all i know is it causes me to suddenly shift all my weight forward followed by striking my knee on the stem, ouch. any ideas what could be causing this? It's a brand new chain, derailleur and casette combo. as said before it shifts no problem just pedaling normally. my free hub body is fine, rear hub is tight, bb is new... i'm out of things to check... please help, thanks
  4. Hi Everyone I have a question. Would a pedal that is pretty much identical to a Shimano XT pedal sell? The info: 10 grams heavier, sealed bearings over the loose ball bearings in xt's. They will retail around R500 cheaper then the Shimano XT pedals. The pedals will come with a 6 month warranty. What does everyone think?
  5. I have a set of Crank Brothers Candy 1s, and the bearing on one of them has failed. This has happened a couple of times before and I’ve got rebuild kits and just replaced the inners. Frustrating, but no problem. This time, however, I can’t get the outer bearing race out of the plastic pedal body. I’m damaging the plastic threads trying to use a screwdriver and other things to pry it out. Any suggestions? Is it possible to push out the sleeve that the spring and wings sit on? If I can get this out then maybe I can find something the right diameter to knock out the bearing race from the inboard side. Are current Crank Brothers pedals still using this same basic internal design? It seems a bit ridiculous to me that that tiny little cartridge bearing is the only thing holding the pedal together, and when it fails (which, as I said, has happened several times to me) you have to ride home with the pedal sliding off the axle. I love the external design and wing system of my Candys (I have a set of 3s as well), but I’m seriously considering moving over to Shimano DX or similar. How does their bearing system compare? Is there at least something that’ll hold the pedal together if the bearings wear or fail? Are the cleats more hard-wearing than the Crank Brothers ones, which seem a little soft to me?
  6. A couple months ago I purchased a set of crank brothers Candy 2 pedals, to replace my old candy 1's that came on my bike. Now although they not the top of the range they retail for R1399 incl cleats which isn't cheap. After many rides in good and bad weather, they were not sounding to great do I ventured to disassemble clean and grease. After getting the one pedal apart and cleaned and back together, it's impossible to get that plastic end cap back on (after struggling for an hour). Out of frustration I just went onto the other pedal (saving the original pedals end cap assembly for last), I was not able to even remove the end cap on the other pedal it just started stripping. Now I sit with and serviced pedal missing a plastic end cap that will not thread back on, and a 70% stripped end cap on a pedal that is not serviced. Did anyone else experience this? Does anyone know if there is a place to get metal end caps? I'm stuck and annoyed....
  7. First released in 1990, Shimano's SPD (Shimano Pedaling Dynamics) have become the go-to pedal of choice for most riders. Whether first starting out or experienced rider. Click here to view the article
