  1. Lately I have seen a lot of "*Price Drop*" adds on the classifieds. I also buy and sell quite a lot and find it more difficult than a few years ago to get buyers. It really seems as if South Africans are in a bit of a squeeze (the classifieds is obviously not a very good representation of the average SA consumer). Would really like to see the results on a poll, so vote!
  2. Hi all. I'm looking to upgrade my hardtail, just not sure what I could ask to sell my Momsen AL029 2018. Less than 300km on the road, still brand new and serviced
  3. Hi, I have a BMC teamelite TE03 that i bought in 2012. It was used for about a year and has all the original equipment still attached. I am looking to sell it as it is a size 26 and is too small for me now. I bought it for R14 000, but don't really know what it is worth now? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Hi, I am also a cyclist doing road and MTB. I need to buy a supercab bakkie and they go for just over R220 000 for some decent Ranger. Just wondering what I am paying for in buying a Cannondale Scalpel for example for R180 000. It seems quite a lot for 2 wheels and a frame and no engine. What make a bike so expensive? This is a serious question as I cannot see what can cost so much.
  5. Good Day Everyone, I've been keen to try out mountain biking for the past year and haven't really made much of an effort to get into it. I've now decided that I'd like to buy a decent (within budget) mountain bike that will allow me to experience this sport which I'd love to get involved in. My thoughts are to purchase a second hand bike so I can introduce myself with the sport, get familiar with what is needed, what I prefer etc. when it comes to bikes and equipment before purchasing my new ride. I have done some reading as to what goes into choosing a bike, even with this knowledge, I'm finding it difficult to know when a second hand mountain bike is reasonable priced or not. I've found a Silverback Saturn with the following specs given: Silverback Saturn 19"(large frame) 26" Double wall Alloy rims CST Copperhead tyres Shimano hydraulic disc brakes Removable gel seat cover Rebound adjust suntour fork Double butted 6061 aluminium frameSo my question is, what would be a reasonable price for such bike? The bike looks to be in good condition as far as my knowledge allows. Note: I was looking at a cheaper Ralleigh (29 inch), which didn't look too bad, but have a weird feeling that I'd get what I'm paying for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially what you think the Silverback would be worth.
  6. Hi guys As you can see by the title of this post I'm new to all of this, so please have pity if I'm posting in the wrong thread / section!. But to my question (which may require a bit of background info): Until June this year I was living in Little South Africa, SW London. One night after a couple of beers, and without one of us actually owning a bike, my brother in law, a mate and I decided to tackle the London – Paris ride. Subsequently we all bought MTB's (can't recall the reasoning behind deciding on MTB's...), panniers and helmets and set off two weeks later. We suffered. Badly. But we, nevertheless, drank the cool aid and felt converted. Back in Wimbledon we all sold our MTB's and got road bikes. Mine was a Planet X Superlight Pro Carbon. Come June, a good opportunity opened up for me to come back to SA and the bike came with, albeit 3 months later. I have been toying with the idea of selling the bike (1) because I think it's a smidgen too small for me, and (2) there's a VERY attractive bike I saw advertised on here (to avoid attracting unwanted attention to it, i'l leave it unnamed!) that will require a bit – quite a lot – of supplementary funding. Problem is that I'm not too sure what a fair price for mine would be here in SA. The specs are as follows: Frame: Full carbon Superlight Pro Carbon Groupset: Campagnolo Centaur ten speed (the brake levers look like they are carbon wrapped) Fork: Black Magic carbon fork Seat post: Easton EC90 carbon Saddle: Selle Italia Thoork Test saddle Wheels: Campagnolo Khamsim (front), Bianchi Reparto Corse (back) Tyres: Hutchinson Fusion 3 (pretty brand new) Thanks in advance!
  7. Hold on to your butts, the new Dura Ace 9100 groupset prices are out and it looks like i'm going to have to sell one or two body parts to get my hands on it: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/product-news/pricing-revealed-new-shimano-dura-ace-groupset-273692 Its a weight saving I suppose http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.imdserve.com/images/news/2016/06/29/dura-ace-r9100-op_zz_zz_zz_img1-1467198559854-1ng5i7fqj7758-960-540.jpg
  8. A big up to Retief at Cyclesharp. I was looking to buy a few high end bib, Retief got in touch with me. He went out of his way to ensure I got the correct size, and the correct bib for the type of riding I am going and plan on doing. His price was the best price I could find anywhere online and in store. And the best part is the day after I ordered my order was delivered. Based on my experience I can highly recommend Cyclesharp to anyone looking for Assos or Giordana kit.
  9. A colleague wants to sell his 2nd hand wetsuit. The size should be perfect and it has a couple of cuts but nothing which makes it unusable, should be easy to patch. It is a Orca S2 Currently I can buy a brand new Orca S5 wetsuit from Fluid Lines for R4330. The colleague paid about R3800 for his wetsuit back in the day. Now, two questions: Is it worth it to consider buying this 2nd hand wetsuit? What would be a reasonable price for us both? I have no idea where to start, 50% of original purchase price?
  10. Ride a bit at Modder and heard this week that they are going up to R50 a ride from 1 Feb 2015 - 25% increase! Even if you buy their card - it still works out expensive, especially when you compare it to the likes of Northern Farms. If you taking a family in for a ride, you in for R200 before you have even wiped the k@k from your eyes? Any opinions?
  11. Hi, I am looking for some advice for selling my mountain bike. I bought it in the states and flew back with it last year. Its a 17.5" hardrock specialized 29er 2014 edition. What is a good price for this bike? Its used, but not that much. What kind of information would a buyer need from me? Any advice would be appreciated. Regards.
  12. Hi everyone, A mate of mine has upgraded and is looking to sell his old mtb. Any ideas on a fair value for this bike? Marida Big Nine XT 2012 29er Hardtail Fox Shocks Full Shimano XT components Thanks Grant
