  2. Okay okay okay. in the light of all the BS and handbag slapping that has gone down in Hubville over the last few days, leaving bugger all for Friday, I call a Rave Thread into existence. What is it that either made you feel good over the last few days? Failing that, what are you looking forward to over the weekend. Mine is that I will be doing my first attempt up Ou Helshoogte with perhaps some Delvera thrown in for some good measure. Anyone, anyone?
  3. I bought an old 26" Ispydafly frame through the hub a while ago. Unfortunately I could not get a headset for it. I took it to Torq Zone in Centurion for assistance. Unfortunately they told me that it is a non-standard size and that the frame has integrated cups. I made contact with Rob Carle - owner of Ispydafly. He directed me to Complete Cyclist in Bryanston (Next to Sandton Mediclinic). I met Mike Hewan who introduced me to Werner (workshop) and they took the frame and managed to press standard cups into the integrated cups. This allowed them to insert standard size headset bearings. They even gave me a spare headset in case I cannot find a headset sometime in the future when it needs replacement. Unfortunately I did not get the mechanic's name, but he came and explained all of this to me in detail. He confirmed that it was a nice struggle to find a solution for a weird and wonderful issue. I really enjoyed my experience with these guys. They have an attitude of "Let us fix this!" which I really enjoy. I take my hat off to these guys running and working in this shop. In summary: What a great experience. I will drive from Centurion to Bryanston in the future if I need specialist work done or if struggle with something on a bike. Visit them for excellent service! 4. Rave about an (almost) tragic accident: For real technical expertise, Dr George (PhD) is the only place to go. Everyone had warned me about getting a roof rack for my car. Needless to say, after one month of bike transport bliss, I slammed my gold vintage Falcon (hand made in Britain) into the carport. The bike was mangled - frame bent, handle bars bent, both wheels locked and warped. A total write-off. That is, until Dr George (he has a PhD from a Canadian University) at Mean Machines bikes got his hands on it. Unlike other bike shops, Dr George has 35 years of experience and does all the work himself. My gold Falcon was returned to me after a week and I couldn't be happier The before and after pics show just how good the repair is. Before After (only a slight bend remaining after cold bending) For real technical expertise, my vote goes to Dr George at Mean Machines in Germiston. As with all doctors, its best to make an appointment: 071 656 4207 or 071 6591097 *** Updated: Close up picture of repaired bend *** -Andrew
  5. I'm not the most sociable of people. I ride my bike alone, although I nod to those passing me in either direction and greet those I pass. But often, at the end of a climb or a lovely ride, when the endorphins are sloshing around my brain and I can hear the blood coursing through my body I am filled with a magnificent sense of well-being. Sometimes in those moments, I think of all of you. Every one of you, who has ever ridden a bike and felt THAT feeling. That alchemical, magical, transformative feeling. I'm not a religious man, but my bicycle is my church. The pain of effort my religious sacrament. So this simple missive is a salute to all of you, brothers and sisters, all of you who understand. I may never meet the vast majority of you. I don't need to. Because we share this experience. I doubt I'll ever truly convey precisely what I'm trying to here, words feel somewhat insufficient. But here it is anyway. I salute all of you, all of us, united in our wondrous pursuit. Peace.
  6. Just want to thank the people at Solomons Lynnwood for the excellent service. They just installed a new groupset on my bike for the same price as a normal service. I bought the groupset at a give away price, privately and they had no problem helping me and did not even ask where I bought the set. I am a VERY satisfied customer.
