  1. Help please ! I have a 2014 Fox CTD boostvalve rear shock (Momsen Vipa tune) on the rear of my Vipa and a new Rockshox Reba up front (100mm). I have the Rockshox remote lever for this 2019 version which takes cables to both fork and shock, but only two positions. Can I use this for my Fos CTD shock that has 3 settings and just use 2 of the settings eg Trail and Climb? Also are the CTand D exact "click" positions or are they all just gradients- then I could select any 2 positions I like. Also would that be bad for the shock? Many thanks for your help.!
  2. Hi all I sent my Fox Re:Aktiv shock off my Top Fuel 9.9 to the agents last week to get a service and requested them to change the direction of the cable so it would be from the bottom and not the top to fix the loop-die-loop that it comes standard. I refitted it last night, put on the cable and then realized it has now converted the shock to a push-to-unlock instead of push to lock which is a bit of a problem as my fork and shock are now opposites... My question: is it possible to have the cable coming from the bottom with the shock as push-to-lock? I have attached some pictures of how it comes standard and my converted shock. The original Shock with cable direction: My current shock with the conversion:
  3. Unfortunately I get to see the worst of the worst! What is the worst you have ever seen. Thought I would share a couple of photos to illustrate the effect of not servicing your equipment on a regular basis! All that dirt, grit, grime and fine dust creates a very fantastic sanding paper effect!
  4. After doing some reading about the extra volume that EVOL offers in Fox's range of shocks, I'm not 100% clear on what the nett effect would be for your average rider. To those in the know: What are the pros and cons of running a shock with EVOL vs the same model without EVOL? I understand how the extra volume improves small bump sensitivity, but does this come with a trade-off of the shock feeling "less firm" or sacrificing efficiency? Recently ditched my Epic for a Camber which came fitted with a: FOX FLOAT Performance, Rx Trail Tune, AUTOSAG, DPS damper, rebound and 3-position compression adjust, 205x53mm" I weigh approx 95kg and opted for the Camber because it bring much more comfort and trail capability than the Epic, but doesn't sacrifice too much efficiency for longer marathon-style races and the occasional tar outing (one bike for all applications kinda vibe). Is an EVOL aircan upgrade for the shock something worth considering?
  5. Hi all, Looking at buying a Scott Spark 920 2013. Really keen on the Twinloc system but the bike doesn't come with one. Is one able to re-install the system and where would one find a system? The fork and shock on the bike are a Fox 32 Float 29 Evolution CTD Air 100mm and Fox Float RL 100mm. Thanks for the help.
  6. Hello everyone, I am 'new' to taking Mtb biking seriously and I just purchased a Lapierre XL 729 Frame. I wish to build it up to a sweet well specified bike starting With the Cannondale Lefty. All advice is highly welcome. Thanks for reading.

  8. If you take a couple steps back and look at the advancements in mountain bike technology that have happened in the last few years, you’ll see an astonishing amount of progress. Think about it: You don’t need many fingers to count the bike brands without carbon-fibre offerings; 1x drivetrains are the norm, not the exception; bikes without dropper posts are more or less limited to dedicated XC and DH racers; and your garden variety, solid-pedaling trail and enduro bikes are more capable descenders than full-blown downhill race bikes of the early 2000s. Yet despite the sport’s progression, frame and suspension manufacturers continued to hold on to modes of thinking that were, frankly, outdated. Click here to view the article
  9. I have been enjoying my recently acquired Banshee Spitfire so much these last few months, it really is a proper shredding machine. The only downside is the Cane Creek Double Barrel Inline shock, which loses air pressure. I inflate the shock to 180 PSI to achieve the sag etc that I need, and then the next day it has fallen to 160 PSI. It will always go down to 150-160PSI nothing less, so that tells me that it is not just leaking air. Has anyone experienced the same problem before? Is it a rebuild matter? I don't even want to think about having my bike out of order for a week while the shock is being rebuilt. I might just wither and die..........
  10. Hi all I am looking to find volume rings for my CCDB Inline shock. I feel that my Spitfire could use some more progression in the rear. Where can I get them from? Is seems like it is a simple job to install. Is this true? Thanks mates! http://www.tftuned.com/images/products/large/3058.jpg
  11. In October before W2W I took my bike to my LBS (who shall remain nameless as despite the story below I still like the shop), which has branches in several locations, for a major service including rear shock service. I was told by the mechanic that they cannot get seals from DT Swiss, so they just clean the shock out. Yes ok, whatever, you are the expert, do your thing, call me in a day or two and I will come and pay you. They know I don't mind paying for my bike, if something needs to be fixed, please alert me and continue. Ride W2W, return to Jhb and a week later go to Modder for a night race, only to discover there is zero air pressure in my shock. Someone has a pump on hand, so they pump it up and I manage to ride the 25km although it clearly wasn't functioning properly. Return to shop, they keep it for a day and then call me to collect. Being a female and trusting this shop, I dont ask too many questions, assuming they replaced a seal or something. No charge. This weekend, pack the bikes up and drive 300km to Van Reenen where we have booked into the Green Lantern Inn for 2 days of some serious LSD training. I managed to complete 30km on Saturday morning before my shock lost all pressure. Pumping it up wouldnt help, air goes straight through. Day of riding wasted. Luckily had a sick friend who was staying in the vicinity for the Trans Draak dry run so she loaned me her bike so that at least I got to ride on Sunday. Today, called a Scott representative, who tells me that the shop has null and voided my shock warranty because they should not have opened it themselves. It should have been sent to them (a mere 10 minutes away). The mechanic who did this has since left the shop. They have no explanation except to say he left a trail of similar stories in his wake. Shock will now finally be sent to DT Swiss to service, and I am getting a loan bike while this happens. Planning to ask them to at least carry the costs of the proper service, since I have already paid once for this job. I am quite dazed and confused that my reputable LBS has let me down like this.
  12. I have tried searching the forums for information but I haven't found too much. Where does everyone (that does these jobs themselves) source seal kits for a shock service? My DT Swiss M210 has starting leaking air, not badly, so I can still pump it up and ride at the moment. But I don't seem to be able to find any information on where to get a service kit. It looks like an easy job to do but I just don't know where to get the parts! I'm sure there are plenty that have managed to do this themselves, so any help would be appreciated!
  13. Hopefully by now all the smart asses have gone home and I can get a decent response. Just wanting to see if there is anyone out there that has attempted a full service (Not just the aircan) on a Fox RP2 or RP23. Saw a thread om Mtbr Forum that seemed easy enough to follow. My rebound and Pro Pedal are currently not working. All the bike is good for at the moment is a spin around the driveway with the kids. It's like riding a pogo stick. My guess is that after letting it stand for over a year after some surgery that I had, it could just need a clean and some new oil. Everything worked fine before I parked it off. I released all the air from the compression side and cycled the shock a few times hoping for a result but to no avail. I phoned for a price for a service and was quoted R1200 for a complete service. The budget is very tight at the moment so either I DIY this thing or it stands for the next few months. I have seen a cutaway section of the shock and it seems simple enogh to dissasemble. The only problem that I could forsee is the 300Psi in the Nitrogen chamber....
  14. So I got dared into doing the Argus, entered and a month later decided I had better start training. So i bought my self a Silverback Sola 4 (Entry level hard tail). And did the Argus in 5:45. And loved it. My dilemma is that i was given a entry to this years whine2whales ride. And i am not sure that my bike will handle it. (Or i for that matter, but i have to try at least) My 2 big concerns being rims and front shock. The rims being Alex MD21 (I have to true them at least once a month)(My weight is 95kg's) The fork is a Suntour XCR. I was thinking that i could upgrade the rims to say ZTR Arch Ex's, The bike has Shimano Hubs. Advise please
  15. Ok so here is the deal, was checking my bike today after a bit of a rough ride on the weekend, and found this (see pic). Before I go and scare the daisies out of myself on the replacement cost for a Spez rear shock, do you think its broken beyond repair.
