  1. I’m looking for a steerer tube extender, preferably new from a supplier who can post within SA. Something like this from Rose or this from BBB would fit the bill. Alternatively, any suggestions for getting a higher bar position without purchasing a new fork with a longer steerer tube? Higher rise bars might help. I’m worried that any stem that has that much rise would also increase the reach too much.
  2. Hi, I am looking to replace the stem on my 2017 Cervelo S3 (image included below for reference - not my actual bike) and really like the look of the modern aero/integrated stems and associated spacers (apologies off the bat if the technical terminology used throughout is incorrect, will do my best to try explain what I am referring to) that come standard on today's new bikes. See examples below for reference of desired look: As the Cervelo S3 is an aero frame, I think adding an aero stem and spacers would greatly add to the aesthetics of the bike overall, however I am having some difficulty finding a stem, spacer and headset top cover/cap combination that would be compatible with the frame. Note that the Cervelo S3 frame is not compatible with integrated cable routing (as far as I have been able to uncover), so not looking for an integrated solution, merely after the look/aesthetics of an aero front end. The frame has a standard round 46mm headset/headtube (currently has the stock FSA headset installed as came with the bike), so would need to find a solution which is compatible. I have found two possible stems which may work, however not sure if I am missing something before I pull the trigger: i) FSA/Vision SMR stem - https://www.fsaproshop.com/products/fsa-smr-acr-stem From what I have been able to find, this requires a 56mm top cap/cover, so unsure as to whether this would be compatible. ii) Deda superbox - https://dedaelementi.com/superbox-bike-stem This comes standard with a 56mm and 46mm top cover/cap, so think this may be the solution - unfortunately a bit hard to find in SA and majority of international vendors appear to be out of stock in 100mm. Alternatively, BicycleGarage has a Farr Aero stem (https://bicyclegarage.co.za/products/farr-handlebar-stem-aero-10 ) which could work (and is locally available) however Farr have confirmed that this only comes with a 10mm worth of aero spacers and they are not available separately (would likely need 30-40mm worth of spacers for current set up). After market aero spacers can be sourced online, but its obviously very difficult to try find ones that will align and not end up looking fugly. Is there anything else I should be considering before pulling the trigger? Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  3. When I look at other bikes I see the saddle is higher than the stem/bar. On my bike the saddle is a bit lower. Maybe I have short legs as I don't think the saddle can go higher comfortably. I'm 5'8 and my bike is a Small 29er frame. Maybe it is the bike model or geometry. My stem is slightly angled up I could flip it- it has no spacers currently and the bar is the std Silverback flat bar with no rise. Why is my saddle so low in comparison to others? Also on a mtb is one not so supposed to sit more upright on the trail? Which would mean a higher stem/bar or is this not so. I was thinking of going shorter stem 45mm or 55mm (its now 80mm) and wider bars 740mm- 780mm (up from 700mm) thinking I'd get more control and a zero stem angle but then it usually means a riser bar and that means my saddle will be lower than the stem/bar.......
  4. I'd like this: https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/k-edge-gravity-cap-garmin-mount It's for an 820 Garmin, and I dont want to use the out front mount, and the little mount and rubber band solution doesn't work on my stem (short and fat). But dang... 500 bucks for that? No other solutions or brands that are cheaper?? Or should I just *** and betaal?
  5. I've recently moved from a 2016 Specialized Camber Comp Carbon to an 2016 Epic Elite Carbon World Cup. I ride mainly spruit, northern farms, trail stuff. I definitely wasn't using the Camber to it's full potential, but did enjoy the comfortable ride. I immediately enjoyed the ease with which you can climb on the Epic. Bike does indeed feel much lighter and more effortless going uphill. A rougher ride no doubt. I was concerned the more aggressive position on the bike would be uncomfortable but other than a little chafe from a different seat (didn't get that with my camber) i've found it surprisingly comfortable. First ride on the spruit it definitely felt a little 'twitchy' and I lacked some confidence I had with the camber. I changed the front tyre to a 2.2 ground control for a bit more grip. I see online they also say the stem is far too long (Specialized Stout XC 100 mm) and advised going for a shorter (70mm) stem. Would this help me with handling? If so what stem would you advise and what would they go for? Cheers, Matt
  6. Hi Guys, We are working on a new stem and we may be able to make it compatible with standard steerers and Giant's Overdrive 2 1 1/4" system as we have had a number of people asking about Overdrive 2 stems. The stems would be XC/Trail/road compatible and of a high quality alloy, either 2014 or 7050 like our ControlColumn stems and of a similar price (around R350) Would anyone be interested? What lengths would you like? Let me know.
  7. Hi, I am keen on buying a new handlebar and stem for my mountain bicycle. Any advice on what are good products? Carbon/not carbon? My goal with mountain biking is long rides with the occasional single track and rocky sections. I had a look at Ritchey, don't now the product that well. Any advice would be appreciated. I am tall, 1.93m. Regards, Brendan
  8. Hello everyone, i'm going to build my new frame in the next month. I have 16k and was thinking to get Shimano 105 group set and Campognolo scirocco wheel set. I do not have a idea on the handlebars, stem, seat post and saddle to put on. I have a swift attack frame. Any suggestions to what to put on with my budget and any good cycle shops in cape town where I can get components for reasonable prices?
  9. Just out of curiosity, what are your experiences with using shorter stems if any? Any real/direct benefit for the casual rider, or is this a thing for the pros. Read up a bit on it, and the obvious consensus is it all comes down to personal preference and/or type of rider or terrain one rides, with the shorter stem being preferred when riding trails etc. for control. Just curious to know what your experiences are.
  10. Good day all Yesterday when installing my new Pike, I wanted to use my new Ice Tools torque wrench to torque my stem's steerer-binder bolts to 5Nm. I just noticed that it felt way too much for me, I did not even continue to achieve the "click". So I tightened the bolts by hand rather. Is 5Nm too much? Or could it be that my torque wrench is out of whack?
  11. Hey Hubbers I'm looking for some advice on a low profile stem - on of those with a negative rise at 17 degrees. Now I know of the handlebar-width-vs-stem-length rule, is there a similar thing that applies to stem angles? I'm currently running a 90mm stem at 6 degrees (negative) and would like to drop it down to 17. Unfortunately, (1) I don't have one to borrow from a friend and (2) don't know if I should use the same length? Additional, I was thinking of getting a Spaz stem - just for that angle-shim-thingy if I decide that I don't like it.
  12. When I asked the guys from Larc Distributors for some products to test, they immediately wanted to give me some flashy colours to show off their FUNN lineup. I usually like a more sedated look - some small colour accents here and there, nothing fancy. So when Ryan and Andrew handed over some colourful items, I was a bit taken aback, but also kind of intrigued. Click here to view the article
