  1. Hi, I am looking to replace the stem on my 2017 Cervelo S3 (image included below for reference - not my actual bike) and really like the look of the modern aero/integrated stems and associated spacers (apologies off the bat if the technical terminology used throughout is incorrect, will do my best to try explain what I am referring to) that come standard on today's new bikes. See examples below for reference of desired look: As the Cervelo S3 is an aero frame, I think adding an aero stem and spacers would greatly add to the aesthetics of the bike overall, however I am having some difficulty finding a stem, spacer and headset top cover/cap combination that would be compatible with the frame. Note that the Cervelo S3 frame is not compatible with integrated cable routing (as far as I have been able to uncover), so not looking for an integrated solution, merely after the look/aesthetics of an aero front end. The frame has a standard round 46mm headset/headtube (currently has the stock FSA headset installed as came with the bike), so would need to find a solution which is compatible. I have found two possible stems which may work, however not sure if I am missing something before I pull the trigger: i) FSA/Vision SMR stem - https://www.fsaproshop.com/products/fsa-smr-acr-stem From what I have been able to find, this requires a 56mm top cap/cover, so unsure as to whether this would be compatible. ii) Deda superbox - https://dedaelementi.com/superbox-bike-stem This comes standard with a 56mm and 46mm top cover/cap, so think this may be the solution - unfortunately a bit hard to find in SA and majority of international vendors appear to be out of stock in 100mm. Alternatively, BicycleGarage has a Farr Aero stem (https://bicyclegarage.co.za/products/farr-handlebar-stem-aero-10 ) which could work (and is locally available) however Farr have confirmed that this only comes with a 10mm worth of aero spacers and they are not available separately (would likely need 30-40mm worth of spacers for current set up). After market aero spacers can be sourced online, but its obviously very difficult to try find ones that will align and not end up looking fugly. Is there anything else I should be considering before pulling the trigger? Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Dan Bigham's 27cm road handlebars Bigham has caused a stir after a photo emerged of the Ribble-Weldtite rider racing in Denmark this past weekend using extremely narrow handlebars with the levers at an extreme angle. https://cyclingtips.com/2021/04/new-uci-regs-challenge-accepted-dan-bighams-27-cm-road-handlebars/

  4. Does anyone have any experience of reviews regarding Cabal Bikes? (based in Cape Town) There are some reviews about the bikes but they all seem as if they were paid for? I’m interested in buying one but not sure if they ride as good as they look.
  5. Hi folks, planning to convert one of rear road wheels into a disc wheel. Avoiding the hefty price tag that comes with, there are disc cover options I'm exploring. Option 1 is do a full diy, which is quite a bit cheaper (just using a certain grade plastic). Option 2 is getting a custom cut/fit disc cover, like these guys in the US ($100, or R1,200). http://www.wheelbuilder.com/aero-disc-covers.html Does anyone know of any local people that do the above? And what it might cost? Thanks. Brad
  6. I know Friday is the worst time to post a semi-serious question, but here goes: How did you come to find your preferred handlebar width? Trial and error, whatever came on the bike, what a bike fitter suggested, shoulder width? To me logic says that the most aero solution is to have bars that are at least as narrow as your shoulders. Unfortunately that puts me in the region of 36cm when stretched out. I currently ride 40cm c2c
  7. Hi all, so after being a "Look" guy for a while, the time has come to try something new. I have narrowed my options down to the Bianchi XR4 and the Colnago Concept. This is such a difficult decision for obvious reasons so was hoping to get some unbiased opinions to help with the decision.
  8. Do you guys think a TT bike and accessories are worth it compared to only a road bike with perhaps some extra accessories, e.g. TT bars, shoe covers and skin suit? I have a Giant TCR road bike and race on it, but I think it would be nice to also train TT style and also to do the TT races, even though they are not common. Don't want to break the bank, therefore is it even worth it considering the costs and potential time savings? And I have no problem swopping out wheels and pedals (important for one day when I get a power meter) and whatever between bikes if I only get a TT frame and if they are compatible. In essence, could be more like 1.5 bikes than a proper road and proper TT bike. Found these two nice videos which show some aero savings and relevant costs: and E.g. in the second picture you can see an aero frame is very expensive relative to the little aero saving you get while a special skin suit is worth much more in drag and time saving at a relative low cost. Thanks
  9. Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice on which road wheelset would best suit me as a rider. Background: I've been using an entry level shimano wheelset for the past 7 years and would like to replace them with something a bit better. I'm a light rider @ 65kg's, enjoy climbs and am weak on the flats. I'm looking at the second hand market (around R4500) and am keen on either: Mavic Ksyrium Elite American Classic 420 Aero | 3 I will be using these wheels for training and racing. I only race a couple of times a year and can't justify 2 wheelsets. Will the aero profile of the AC improve my riding on the flats? Does anyone have experience with both of these wheels? What is the quality like of the two brands? Any advice is welcome

  12. Looks like Spez getting all aero with what could be the new version of the Venge. Cav' has been riding it at the Tour de Suisse (not that it's helped him to any wins there). Full article at Cycling News http://cdn.media.cyclingnews.com/2015/06/17/2/1434576042635_1w6pgv2ws2enl_700_80_670.jpg
  13. Hi All I am sure this topic has been debated to death, but cant for the life of me track down a thread. With that said, I am looking for some advice regarding a bike I can use for 70.3 / Ironman and standard Olympic triathlons. I am not looking for a TT bike, but more a 'aero' bike with agents available in Cape Town. Thus far, I am considering the following 2: Scott Foil 20 Giant TCR Advanced 2 CompactBoth seem to be in the similar price range (20 - 24k) and offer similar aero frame designs. Perhaps any other bike I am not considering? Thanks in advance
