  1. There's apparently a mountain bike race happening this weekend (17/18 November 2018) at Meerendal - but there doesn't seem to be any mention of it on Bikehub ? Maybe my search skills on the incredible edible internet suck ? Is anyone here taking part in it ? Why is it called "invitational" (especially seeing as people can sign up for it) ? It looks like it'll go through the Dorstberg gate (!!!) at the end of the second day.
  2. Apologies in advance if this has been asked before but at the top of the Dorstberg trail at Meerendal there's a gate. On Strava one can see that a long time ago (2012) people used to ride beyond the gate and down onto what looks like the Olief farm (Malanshoogte Road and the M58). There's at least one Strava segment in this area called "Dorstberg through quarry" which was mostly ridden in 2013 and last ridden in 2017. I was just wondering what happened to this trail ? Why did the gate get locked/trail get closed ? Thanks!

  4. Hi Hubbers, I'm just throwing this out there into Hubberland in the hope that some Hubbers will support my friend Balie Swart raise some much needed money for the Herberg Kinderhuis in Robertson. He supports this childrens home and acts as its Ambassador. Herberg Kinderhuis. ABSA, Robertson. Rek: 1200390004 Tak: 334713 Payment Ref: CA2CX/BalieSwart. Bewys van betaling: balies@vodamail.co.za. Waardeer opreg en dankie. Blessings, Balie. If you feel that you want to contribute to this great cause perhaps you could just add "BikeHubber" to the payment reference. I will be donating R1/km that he plans to do. Many thanks!!
  5. Warning, serious rant below. This race was for sure the worst one I’ve done to date. There are a number of reasons, but let’s list a few of them here. Some of these issues may not be universally applicable but I still feel they played a role in the overall poor experience had by myself and many other participants. Note that I also did this event last year, and I loved it 1. Registration: I didn’t go to the registration myself this year, but my buddy who offered to stand in line for a group of us had a miserable time. Took him over an hour. From what I gather the tablet system was to blame. I guess that actually boils down to either using an untested system or poor planning and execution. 2. Loading of riders into start chutes: I started in B batch for the Marathon. I was there on time, but still didn’t manage to get in the chute before the gun went off. I estimate that a third of the batch was still trying to get in by the time the gun went off. Again, the tablets and scanners are to blame. There were only two guys loading us all in. When I did manage to get in the people were already putting up the tape for C batch. Surely management should have recognized the issue and delayed the start. 3. Water points: Three. I don’t need to say more, but I will. This was simply not enough for this race. And then when you got to them they had nothing. “Uh sorry, our water is done”. 4. Route: Hands down the most boring route I have ever done. Last year the route was awesome, in fact it was the reason I joined Tygerberg MTB club. This year it was the Tour de Sand. If I say there was 3km of singletrack I’m probably exaggerating. After 30km I was totally over it. 5. Post race area: It looked like the Ashburton clients had a brilliant time. If you were however, like me, not one of their clients you really didn’t have much choice. If you were very determined you would have found the small little table that sold some beer off to the one side. Thanks for alienating your potential cleints Ashburton. I don’t think I want to be one of your clients after that display. 6. Results: uuh...All I get is an Error 404 page. It was not all bad though, the Biogen cooldrinks were actually quite nice, and I dig the free socks. The negatives unfortunately far outweighed the positives and I will not be doing any more races in the Ashburton series, ever. Wish I rather went for a ride with my buddies in Jonkershoek yesterday.

  9. I was just asked by my brother to confirm a supposed incident where two guys were attacked at or around Meerendal, apparently one of the guys ended up with stab wounds to the abdomen. This apparently happened a week or so ago. I asked my brother if he was sure about this, and he says he heard it from one of his customers who knows one of the guys involved. The customer also rides by the way. My boet insists that the customer is a man of high repute, who would not joke about stuff like this. I have not heard anything related to this, and am purely asking any hubbers to dismiss or confirm. If this is in fact true, it is serious, as I and many other folks ride alone there all the time.
  10. Hey guys, Anyone keen to join me for a MTB ride this Saturday, around 9:30am. The ride will be relaxed and we'll do roughly 15 - 20km. We can ride Meerendal, Contermanskloof or Bloemendaal. Let me know

  12. Hi all Rode at Meerendal Saturday morning. It was great, until I reached my car and realised that my car key is missing. Must have slipped out of my shirt pocket on some of the more bumpy tracks. My friend and me did some of the track again to look for it, but realised it would be very optimistic to find it if it fell out and hopped into the grass or into a stream. After a while we gave up and I got a lift to fetch my spare key. If anyone has maybe found a black remote car key, please PM me. It wasn't on any key chain. I'm holding thumbs that someone accidentally looked down long enough to see it, as these things don't come cheap. Thanks!

  15. Will there be any events hosted in Meerendal at the day of the Epic Finale? I always liked the Vineyard Races. Can't seem to find any reference for something like this at all anywhere... Anybody here with some insider information?

  17. Hi Hubbers, I am looking to join a group of intermediate riders, preferably not racing snakes since I can't keep up, who are interested in riding to Tygerberg MTB trails from Sunningdale area in a group on weekends. I have been amping to go for a while, but don't want to go it alone, especially past Du Noon etc. I have been watching a couple groups head out and back every now and then but do not know where they start at, or if they would like someone to join? Any takers? Karl
  18. Hi I am looking for parents who would like to have their kids ride with other kids during the week in the afternoon at places like Meerendal. I have a 10 year old boy who is a very enthusiastic mountain biker that would like to go and ride every day - but we prefer that he always ride with a buddy. Please contact me on pm or comment here if you have kids that are in the same situation. We could then arrange a time to meet at Meerendal to see if the kids get along. Regards
