This event is arranged in conjunction with the South African Police Services in Roodepoort.

Since Gauteng got a new commissioner he has taken the bull by the horns and is making every attempt to reduce crime in Gauteng. Our Sector Manager has to report to him every Monday morning and excuses are no longer acceptable. Part of his drive is an attempt to get the community more involved in fighting crime. The Sector Manager therefore has another responsibility, which is projects.

Ontdekkers Park South Blockwatch has existed for 21 years and we have agreed to take on 3 projects. The first project is to be on Friday, the 25th March and will be known as the MIDNIGHT TO MIDNIGHT CYCLE WATCH. The purpose will be to do patrols throughout the Blockwatch precinct over a 24 hour period. (Motor bikes will also be included.) It is not a race. The other 2 projects will be a Walk Watch and a Dog Watch, which will be held at the end of April and May respectively.

Participants will be required to do a patrol for a minimum of 2 hours. The first objective is to have patrols covering the entire 24-hour period. It is hoped to have a minimum of 2 cyclists, per 2 hour shift, on patrol for the full 24 hours. Thereafter time slots will be filled in, as and when participants wish to start patrolling. In order for the Blockwatch to achieve its objective it will be essential that time slots be booked. Participants will be required to report in at least 15 minutes before their scheduled commencement time. The start and finish point will be in Ontdekkers Road. There is no entry fee.

As a Blockwatch we are the "eyes and ears" of the police only. We do not get involved in apprehending criminals. If any patroller comes across an incident or notices any suspicious activity the Blockwatch cell phone is the first port of call. Refreshments will be provided during the event.

To assist participants marked patrol cars will also be operating within the Blockwatch. SAPS will also be in attendance and will be able to assist should the need arise. First aid facilities will also be available.

The Ontdekkers Park South Blockwatch borders are as follows:

1. Starting at the BP garage on the c/r of Louis and Ontdekkers Road.
