  1. What an exceptionally well-organised event! The marshalling and road markings were superb and the Road Rangers bike marshalls were their usual brilliant selves. Thank you and well done to Gerald and his team as well as everyone else who made the event what it was.
  2. Oh no, that's terrible, I also saw the post on FB, I really hope it's not as bad as it looked. Take care out there everyone, please.
  3. RIP cyclists does anybody know their names?
  4. Sorry you're feeling so bad, try the "flu cocktail" or "fizz bomb" - one Corenza C, one ACC 200 and one Linctagon C in a glass of water three times a day. Hope it helps, if not get to a doctor, this 'flu is a bad one!
  5. Good luck to all participating in the Junior & U/16 Tour starting tomorrow in Nelspruit. Check out the routes at http://www.cyclingsa.com/App_Resources/Uploads/FILE00000308.pdf it's gonna be one helluva tour!

  7. This event is arranged in conjunction with the South African Police Services in Roodepoort. Since Gauteng got a new commissioner he has taken the bull by the horns and is making every attempt to reduce crime in Gauteng. Our Sector Manager has to report to him every Monday morning and excuses are no longer acceptable. Part of his drive is an attempt to get the community more involved in fighting crime. The Sector Manager therefore has another responsibility, which is projects. Ontdekkers Park South Blockwatch has existed for 21 years and we have agreed to take on 3 projects. The first project is to be on Friday, the 25th March and will be known as the MIDNIGHT TO MIDNIGHT CYCLE WATCH. The purpose will be to do patrols throughout the Blockwatch precinct over a 24 hour period. (Motor bikes will also be included.) It is not a race. The other 2 projects will be a Walk Watch and a Dog Watch, which will be held at the end of April and May respectively. Participants will be required to do a patrol for a minimum of 2 hours. The first objective is to have patrols covering the entire 24-hour period. It is hoped to have a minimum of 2 cyclists, per 2 hour shift, on patrol for the full 24 hours. Thereafter time slots will be filled in, as and when participants wish to start patrolling. In order for the Blockwatch to achieve its objective it will be essential that time slots be booked. Participants will be required to report in at least 15 minutes before their scheduled commencement time. The start and finish point will be in Ontdekkers Road. There is no entry fee. As a Blockwatch we are the "eyes and ears" of the police only. We do not get involved in apprehending criminals. If any patroller comes across an incident or notices any suspicious activity the Blockwatch cell phone is the first port of call. Refreshments will be provided during the event. To assist participants marked patrol cars will also be operating within the Blockwatch. SAPS will also be in attendance and will be able to assist should the need arise. First aid facilities will also be available. The Ontdekkers Park South Blockwatch borders are as follows: 1. Starting at the BP garage on the c/r of Louis and Ontdekkers Road. 2. For the purposes of the Cycle Watch participants will be requested to use the service road, which runs parallel to Ontdekkers Road. 3. Proceed up Ontdekkers Road. 4. Left into Bickel Street. 5. Right into Cutten Street. 6. Left into Andries Bruyns Street. 7. At du Toit Street this becomes Fiona Street. 8. Straight down Fiona. 9. At Melville turn left. Back up to the BP Garage. Should you require any further information please feel free to contact Bernard Farrell on 079 696 0130; 011 763 8499 or 078 813 1391 (24-hour Blockwatch cell number)
  8. A lot of har work obviously went into this one - well done to everyone involved! Marshalling was great; roads, potholes, bumps etc were well-marked (or filled in the case of the potholes!); bit of a hiccup when Cat 3 bunch caught the ALs (but nothing beyond control); and the HeliVac bike marshalls with my bunch were fantastic . Oh, and the food & drinks before and after the race were divine and much appreciated - thanks!
  9. As so many have said, a great loss - such a character, such an inspiration. R.I.P. Graham, we will all miss you!
  10. How's this for a change in the area - a venue that welcomes cyclists! Auto Cradle Estate, traditionally frequented more by the motorised variety of vehicles but hey, new owners, new horizons If you're not cycling with the family, they can wait for you there (plenty for the kids to do) and you can join them afterwards. Map is at http://www.autocradleestate.co.za/images/ace-map1.gif
  11. Such talent, so young, a real tragedy. Prayers and condolences to all who's lives she touched. RIP Carla
