I am appalled at the security in the building I work in. They were very hostile towards my bike this morning when I cycled to work. So they are not bike friendly.

Also noticed that certain shopping centers are hostile towrds bikes. Centro city in Rosettenville, the shopping center opposite RAU and Clearwater mall. They are fine with bikes as long as you leave them outside but then who is going to leave their pride and joy outside and alone at risk of being redistrbuted?

Who of you have had similar experineces? Where are the bike hostile and bike freindly places?

At my local Woolies the security guard tells me not to bother locking my bike as he will look after it. There's a guard that stays a the entrance. Havn't tried any major shopping centres though.

Think I'm going to build me a cheap commuter bike.

My wife and I went for our first 'coffee ride' this past Sunday and stopped at this coffee shop/deli/alotofotherthings called Zoe's in Brooklyn. It was brilliant! The security guard said we can leave our bikes in front of the shop and he will keep an eye on them. And he did (but we stil kept an eye on them just in-case). Quite a leka plek

My buddy chained his bike to a railing at Cresta and they put a wheel clamp on it. They didn't really think things through, though. A wheel clamp for a car doesn't really work on a bicycle. He took his bike out, picked up the clamp and threw it in the bin. They weren't too happy about that.

Buncha dumbasses. Seriously, I cannot understand the mentality of some security peeps. The shopping centre in Melville that didn't want to let me take my bike with me eventually ended up with me taking security guards name photograph, autograph shoe size, paw print etc when he said he would look after the bike for me. Our local P n P is bike friendly. They are quite happy for me to park the bike in the shop (just inside the door) and when I do, the owner keeps a beady eye on it for me. I like that.
