Just had my chain replaced and then found out the cluster as well as front chainrings had to be replaced as well.

A quick R2000 (bit of a surprise) but hopefully my bike can now last a couple of months again.

But, they fitted my bike with XT cluster and XTR chain on my request.

For the chainring, the bikeshop fitted me Truvativ chainrings (middle one is XT as they were out of stock), as the Truvativ was a lot cheaper than the XT.

I would like to know how the Truvativ chainrings compare quality wise to XT chainrings, and if lower quality, how do they compare against SLX chainrings.

Hope there is someone out there with an opinion

Recently replaced my Truvativ 5D crankset with an SLX crankset. My Truvativ cranks lasted forever and never really had any problems with them. SLX seems to help shift a bit easier up front, but I did also replace my chain at the same time so it could be a combo of new cranks and chains that assist the better shifting.

Apparently there's not much difference between XT and SLX although apparently the XT is a bit lighter (and hence less durable) than the SLX.

Hi - I used a XT Hollowtec II and Travativ Noir crank in the past. The Shimano blades were far more surperior to the Travativ. All being equal I would go as far to say you can get 2 to 3 times the live out of the Shimano. The Noir blades are lighter and much cheaper last time I checked.

Dont know about SLX. XT cassette is lighter than SRAM - not sure about durability - to me it was much of a muchness. Used SRAM most of the time.

Chain, dont bother with XTR.

Thanks guys,

I bought the XTR chain more just on the spur of the moment, only R60 difference but i hear you, will stick to XT next time.

Re the blades, the truvativ is practically the same price as SLX but far below XT prices. Was just wondering whether forking out double the price on XT's are worth it or not
