When I posted on twitter yesterday that there'd been a talent failure at the Cycle Park, naturally everyone assumed it was me. But, no, it wasn't. We'd hooked up with James Morland and Bra Josh on the trails and whacked it down Dropzone. When I left the trail, I looked round to see where my mate, Neil Reilly, was. I saw him standing in the middle halfway up the trail. I waved. I could see he was looking at me, but he wasn't waving back. I went back to him, and he wasn't in a good way. He was stiff and sore, and couldn't raise his arms. I took our bikes up to the clubhouse, while he walked. The medic looked him over, but could find no obvious breakages or dislocation, but the boy was in pain. I drove his car back to his house, and dropped him with his wife, who took him to the Glynnwood (my home away from home). Turns out that he fractured his sternum and got some muscle and tendon damage. Here's a pic of Neil in hospital…

ps, The park's trails are running really nice at the moment, and the new stuff is cool. Be careful on Green Mile though, as I got caught out by the changes to the route!

I have been riding the Park alot recently, it's such an awesome and convenient place to have a couple of quick laps and brush up on some technical skills.

Just in the last 2 weeks I've come across about 3 talent failures on the drop zone trail, however every time it happened to be on either the second or last little humps before you reach the actual drops. I haven't seen any wipeouts on either of the 4 drops - where exactly ( and why ) did he stake his land claim?

Anyway, I hope Neil recovers quickly, these things happen to the best of us!

It was after the drop - the second one from the left. There is a bump about a metre(?)-high. He had his weight off the back but the bike seems to have jacked under him.

Oi! Reminds me of happened to me last year. All the best to Neill, hoping he makes a speedy recovery.

Mate, funnily enough he mentioned someone he knows who knows someone who was airlifted from the park last year. He couldn't recall the name. I thought it may have been you.

Oh, and I meant to mention…a big-up to Riaan La Cock, who contacted me to get Neil's number to check on his condition - despite being on paternity leave since he and the missus had a little girl on Thursday. Top bloke that.
