It all begins with a seven kilometre team time trial prologue in Granadaand in stage six the peloton will finish in Andorra with a hors cat?gorie climb. The next day sees the riders finish on Pla de Beret and on stage nine from Viella to Sabi??nigo more tough mountains occur before the drop down to the finish.

Stage 13 will finish on the grueling Alto de L'Angliru and will be followed by a category 1-finish at E. E. Fuentes de Invierno.

The two last mountain stages are stage 19 and 20 finishing in Segovia, after a flat run in to the finish, and Alto de Navacerrada before the ultimate stage to Madrid. The stage to Alto de Navacerrada is a mountain time trial of 16km.
