According to Amashova event organiser Annie, CSA prescribe start times for the various race categories and they have thought it wise to relegate the tandem racing batch to 6th off, at 06.25. At least 4 of the earlier groups are considerably slower than the racing tandems so we can predict what is going to be happening all the way to Durban as the tandems speed past the slower riders seeded ahead of them. Perhaps CSA will also wisely appoint a Marshall to the group. HC.

Can anyone from CSA clarify if seeding of the racing tandems is going to be this way in the future? I believe it is a dangerous practice that needs to be changed back to what it was or Tandems start after elites. If you look at Shova results last year we beat the Pro peleton in across the line. Why should we then be relegated to ride behind the 60+ riders( no disrespect to you Chaps)?

It's not too much of a problem if we start behind the licensed groups as long as their commissaires stop them from jumping in with us and interfering with our race (as happened at the D2D where the top 3 vets C "cheated").

The biggest isssue is not so much the guys jumping on our wheels, but the safety aspect of going downhill at 60-80km an hour and having to pass the slower riders ahead of us.

The question still remains unanswered as to why we have been relegated to the back of the licenced riders when our seeding is higher than the majority of the riders ahead?

I wonder what motivated CSA because it’s pretty thoughtless?

the team event which i thought was serious event in starting at 7H06. When i called the office to ask why were were starting so far back i was told that it was a fun thing to ride as a team.I am very concerned about our safety with all the slower riders being all over the road.

Again, I don't see much of an issue for the Shova. We start with a 14km climb and the bunches will break up. So smaller tandem groups will be passing smaller licensed groups.

Because we are not licensed and the licensed riders start first...?

As for seedings, a lot of the tandems have seedings considerably lower than those of the licensed riders ahead. So should they only allow tandems into the TL group based on seeding alone?

Don't you think you are making an issue out of nothing? Imagine if we started at the back of the field!!!!

Even worse: the one race we started WITH the single bikes. The crash was inevitable and we limped home with a broken wheel... When they tried that trick at the Mtn2Mtn we refused point blank to start with the single bikes.

It was done differently in the past with tandems at the front so why change this year and invite trouble? For absolutely certain ther will be lots of single bikes jumping on the faster tandems along the way (for certain) and on the downhills the added congestion will be dangerous. HC.

I agree it was done differently in the past, but still my point remains that it is a reasonable change and will make little or no difference to the tandem race or safety as long as the commissaires enforce the rules.

Hi Dustman, the Amashova Team event is a social batch. If you want to ride as a team and cycle for prize money then you must enter with the Elites / Vets. Hope this helps

Sunday should be a fast tandem race - I reckon those racing amoungst us will have a clear path from Camperdown. The very fast stuff from Hillcrest down the road are wide thus should have ample space> hope you fat boys are ready "I see some upsets"
