Where's the technical boff's? (See Widget is posting, and JB can't be too far away either)

Any reason why a 10 spd Triple will give trouble when fitted to 9 spd crankset?Confused

I struggled to get a 9spd derailer (braze on) to fit my bike. Only one I could get hold of is a 10 spd derailer. Carefully (ok as carefully as possible using a ruler and not a vernierWink) measured the width of the derailer cages, and they seem to be the same, but when installing it, the inside of the derailer keeps on rubbing against the teeth of the middle ring when shifting to the big ring. The inside of the cages (the section that actualy shifts the chain over) also is the same length as the 9 spd bolt on derailer I had.

The rings is also the standard 52/42/32.

No amount of adjusting could prevent the derailer rubbing against the middle ring, even after lifting the derailer as high as the bracket on the frame allows.

Had look on the chainreaction website. Seems the 10 sp (6603 compared to 6503) is a bit narrower(it does not say by how much), but I presume not by that much that it could cause my problem. Also the teeth on the rings is the same. (52/42/32)
