Do Tandems use the same groupset as a normal roadbike? ____|\___\0/____

No they are not the same as a road bike crankset. The front crankset has a driving blade on the left and the rear crankset has the same driving blade on the left , with a three or two blades crank on the right that drives the rear wheels. Sugino, FSA, Truvativ and Shimano are examples. Shimano made an Ultegra Tandem crankset

Look here ...... http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/chainsets-tandem-dept891_pg1/ Do not know where in SA you can get them.
