I remember a study by the guys at Scwalbe you said (contarary to popular belief) that when riding off road, wider tyres with less pressure had less RR than narrower tyres with higher pressure.

Haven't read anything about that, but the idea i think is that in bumpy terrain a hard tyre hits the bumps and loses momentum while a big volume, low pressure tyre absorbs them and hence loses less momentum
