Road Race Number Collections

Today I had to drive a 60km round trip to pick up and piece of paper with a number that is never checked together with my 3rd copy of CyclingNews. To me the whole number thing is a futile exercise. It is not needed for a results (timing chips take care of that)...

 

So, a few questions on road race numbers... I'm not looking for solutions (there are enough threads about that), but merely about experience, and perceptions of the need of race numbers.

 

Needless to say, I might be finished with race numbers. They are just a huge inconvenience!
