First Bike - Need Help

Hi Chaps

 

My first post on the forum and i seek your expert advice.

 

I am keen on getting into mountain biking with my wife. This will probably start off as purely recreational with occassional off roading. Knowing how involved we get, we will probably fall in love with mountain biking and take it more seriously.

 

I do not want to OVER SPEND but at the same time i dont want to buy a cheapie at Game or Makro. Initially my budget was 4k each but i have discovered that was being hopeleslly optimistic.

 

I dont mind getting a 2nd hand bike.

 

I mate of mine is selling a 2009 Scott Scale 60 for R5 100 - bike is in good condition

 

I have been visiting local bike shops and everybody seems to overload me with information.

 

My question is: For that price, is the Scale 60 a decent bike for me to start off with?

 

Maybe Pros and Cons regarding the bike?
