good advise here about taking it easy. especially at the start. Try get near the front of the starting pen, then just let everyone go at the start. You will probably settle down into the middle or back of the bunch, but thats ok, the guys that shot off quickly will be fried before you get to the end of the M1 and you will slowly start reeling them in.

at about the 60km mark you climb onto the N14. This is where everything falls apart, so hold back in the early parts of the race, you will need the energy here.

Know the route or buy a computer (if you don't already have one) - when I did my first 94.7 I had no idea what the route was so didn't really know how much further it was to the finish as I didn't have a computer either.

Do your utmost to try and convince a few riders with similar speed on the N14 to work together. 6 or 8 works well and each does a minute into the wind. I managed to organise such a group for the wife when we last did the race.

THIS ^^^^ will help immensely if you can get it right, there is nothing worse than being dropped by a group on that stretch and having to go it alone. And it happens to me every single time.

I am riding with a group already, have never been with them before I think I will take the advice and maybe organize a ride @ suikerbosrand and maybe go through these things.. As I could pick up most of them like me are amatures... so lets see how it goes.

Any1 going to ride in that area anytime soon? Maybe take me with and give me some pointers?

Great advice so far... just to add, some of the 94.7's ive ridden have been in the blazing heat, so make sure you get sunblock... and keep hydrated, the heat is a killer and drains you fast. As was said before, depending on what you carry, one bottle with water and the other with an energy drink works well.
