Longbarn Killer Posted December 21, 2012 Share I have an old Scott with V-Brakes. I want to upgrade to hydraulic disc brakes and I have a few questions.I’ve noticed that all bikes have a disc mount on the lower part of the seat stay. My disc mount is on the lower part of the chain stay. Will this make a difference as to what calliper I need? Are callipers a standard size and are all mounts a standard size? How will I route the hoses? My bike only has cable stops on it and obviously the hoses will not fit the narrower stops.
Vinnydabutcher Posted December 21, 2012 Share 1. No2. All calipers are std size but you will need a adapter to suit the rotor. If the front is post mount you wont need an adapter if you want to run a 160 rotor, but you will is you run a 180/183/185 or 203 rotor. Same with back - 160 no adapter - the rest will need. Most guys run 180/183/185 in the front and 160 at the back. its up to you.3. Uncomplicated answer - run the hose next to the cable stops and cable tie it down. Complicated answer involves drilling out the cable stops to allow the hose to run through it.
Longbarn Killer Posted December 21, 2012 Share Thanks Mr Butcher that helps alot. Basically, to avoid the complications of adaptors, i must make sure I get 160mm rotors.
